    new turkey hunter

I need a little help for the upcoming spring turkey season. I'm planning on trying out turkey hunting for the first time with an experienced friend. Unfortunately, aside from the shotgun, I don't have any of the equipment. My friend is relatively wealthy, and the last time we talked about it he gave me a list of things that were "must haves." I looked them up on Bass Pro's website and it would cost me upwards of $400 to get everything he suggested.

My question is this: Since I'm on a budget, what things do I absolutely have to have for turkey hunting? What type of camo? Scent blocker? I'd like to avoid spending a small fortune, because I'm saving for a deer rifle. I don't mind spending a little more on the camo, just because I know I'll be able to use it for other things.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

People have been hunting and eating turkey for a long time. And only recently have they started spending a small fortune on accessories.

If you've got camo and a shotgun, you're good to go. You can accumulate the rest of the stuff you "need" as you get experience and can decide for your self that you need it.

I've got a friend who's idea of turkey hunting is to sit in his barn until a turkey walks by - then he shoots it in the head with a .22 (no pellets in the meat!). He eats very well.

The only things I take with me when I'm going to look for a few turkey dinner is my Mossberg 835 and a box call that my father in law made. He sells them at a couple shops around here. Really nice. With those two items I will almost always bring dinner home with me.

I've only been turkey hunting one time. All I had was camo and a shotgun. The guy I went with had the same and a couple of calls. 1 box call and a mouth call. I really want to get back out there and try again since we got skunked (our own fault).
