My name is John. I live in Queen Creek, Arizona (small town south of Phoenix). I did 6 years in the USMC(R), went to Iraq when we first invaded, and came out a Sergeant. Now I'm a linux systems administrator for a local company. [ I know, I know, since when did they start issuing Marines brains, and all that.]
I'm an avid (rabid?) support of Ron Paul for President in '08. I really like his stance on "gun control". I.e., there should be no "gun control" at the federal level, and the federal government has the responsibility to enforce 2nd Amendment rights on the state. It's rare to see a politician in Washington who thinks the 2nd Amendment means exactly what it says.
Currently, between my wife and I, we own a Glock 22c, Glock 23, and a HK P2000SK (Ver 2), all chambered in .40 S&W. I also own a SMLE MKIII (.303 British) that I take out and mess around with every once in a while when I can find modern (i.e. safe) ammo for it that's priced reasonably.
Nice to meet you all.
We are growing quite an "Arizona Mafia" here on HGF. I live right near you, in Gilbert, though I'm currently on an extended sightseeing tour of Afghanistan.
I like Dr. Paul, but I don't think he has a snowball's chance in Hades of getting the GOP nomination.

Welcome from Phoenix. Its good to have a Fave cansidate. I am unenthused in this race. I am happy that McCain is going down in flames.

I'm from "northeastern Illinois" where it is illegal to own handguns...so...obviously....I don't. That would be wrong. I would be a criminal if I did that...
Actually, I own several as I'm active in cowboy action shooting, but a friend of mine stores my handguns for me in a "collar city" where handgun ownership is still legal.
Strange state. "Downstate" is mostly rurual where folks do not live in fear of the evil gun. The northeast corner is where most of the people live and many of these birds seem to think that guns in the hands of the citizenery means more guns in the hands of the gangbangers...therefore no guns at all is the goal.
There is no rational argument in favor of an armed citizenery that can successfully compete with the nightly televised murder of youngsters. I'm vacationing in Philly at the moment and the murder toll is staggering...and the drum beat is getting louder (from politicians mostly) to increase gun control laws...sadly they must to remain elected.
Now if only the electorate would look at arrest rates and conviction rates they might see a different solution to the problem.

4 months ago, I probably would have said the same thing. Now, I think he has very real chance. I've seen his numbers and funding grow exponentially. Now that the straw polls are underway, I'm getting more and more confident. 1st in NH, AL, and NC. He placed 5th in Iowa and 3rd in Illinois, even considering he spent considerably less time/money campaigning for any of these polls than any other candidate.
