    New guy from Chicago area

    I am really enjoying reading and learning from the forum. I hunted a little and shot trap when i was a kid with my dad. We shot handguns a little too. I decided 20yrs later to renew my interest. I'm waiting for my FOID card so I can purchase a pistol. I'm leaning toward a S&W M&P 9. Getting started is made a little easier by gaining info here.

    Yea, I noticed. Got that problem here too - we call our gangsters here 'congressman' and 'senator'. Oh, and 'governor'.

    It stands for Firearm Owners Identification. You need to apply for one to buy a firearm or purchase ammo. It is a picture ID. The state of IL does a check on your background to make sure you are not a felon , a crazy person, etc. One of the questions on the application asks if you are mentally retarded.

    Welcome from Northern Arizona. I think the M&P9 is an excellent choice. I have an M&P9 and also an M&P40.
