    New from Scotland

    123
    Hi all. Greetings.
I'm came from Airdrie, Scotland. 7 years ago. I now live in the high desert, the Antelope Valley,in Los Angeles County with my wife from North Dakota. We're on 2.5 acres having just built a custom home.
Previously guns have never been on our radar. (And to be honest a few years ago you would have assumed I was anti gun.) However I've come to realize that a gun purchase will happen in the near future for two reasons.

    1. Unlike Scotland I now find myself in a place where I could step onto the porch and run into a rattlesnake or other poisonous snake. I'm not saying I would necessarily use a gun but as some say it's better to have it and not need it, than the converse.

    2. Mainly though, after we had a small emergency last month, a fire, we discovered it takes the emergency services, including the police, more than 40 mins to get here from the city. It's a lovely area but we heard of a murder 10 miles away and an attempted rape not so far away. As you guess we realized that being this far out requires us to take responsibility for our own safety. We're thinking of a shotgun and a handgun and lots of training and practice.

Therefore I'm here to learn and take advice and hopefully say Hi to a few people. If any of you have relatives from Scotland I'd love to know where they're from.

    Regards
    Alan

Welcome, be certain to research the gun laws for the part of California you are in. It is my understanding that not all of California is gun friendly.

    Hello, new here myself.
How are those really restrictive gun laws working in that state? Crime down? Low murder rate? Utopia right?

     commi fornia,
you're doing the right thing to make sure your protected. by the way best gun for home defense is a 12 gauge pump shotgun that holds a lot of rounds

Welcome aboard from the mountian top in N.C. My family came from Scotland in 1812. Something about a King's deer.
