Gun Law Question!

I am new to these forums but i figure that i should post my question here becuase i am new and i dont know where else to put it. I am interested in buying a handgun but since i am only 18 years old in the state of Missouri that is not going to happen as you have to be 21 to buy a gun. My question is that i live a hop skip and a jump away from Kansas where you only have to be 18 to buy a pistol. Is it legal for me to cross the state line buy a gun and bring it back? The reason i ask is i plan on going into the military and want to purchase a beretta m9 and just go to the range and have some fun with it while i have to sit through 4 years of college bored out of my mind waiting to get my officer commision . No. You have to purchase a handgun in your state of residence, unless you have it shipped to a federally licensed dealer within your state, in which case you are back to square one.

As far as I know, you have to be 21 to purchase a handgun from an FFL dealer, though laws on private sales may vary from state to state. But once again, you cannot legally purchase a handgun out of state without going through an FFL dealer.

Check your state web site for age restrictions on handguns. In AZ you have to be 21 to buy from a dealer as Mike mentioned. You have to be 18 to buy from a friend, neighbor or anyone that is NOT a dealer.

I believe the 21 age limit on handguns is a federal law,thru a FFL anyway. most states(check with a lawyer) allow an 18 y.o. to own a handgun but you cannot legally buy one or buy ammo for one till you are 21(fed law).
I haven't been a LEO for 20 years now so this info may be dated , but I have heard nothing about changes to it myself.

ok so now i just have to find someone to buy it for me then transfer ownership over. any idea how much a new beretta m9 runs for? I havent been to any gun shops locally but i looked online and had a hard time finding it.

You have to be 23 to be eligible for a CCW in the state of Misery also.

You also have to get a permit to purchase for each purchase from the local Sheriff which you must be 21 for.

EDIT: This also includes giving.

Your only choices are to wait or to leave that state.

Sorry. That's classed as a 'straw man' transaction, and will get you a long-term visit to one of Kansas' tourist attractions: Levenworth Pen.

I do understand that a parent can buy a gun and give it to you. Technically it isn't quite a gift - more of a 'here, son, you can shoot this' - but you should consult competent legal opinion on this. I'm not competent on anything.

looks like i am doomed untill i am 21 then. very much a bummer thanks for all the input though guys. although, I hear leavenworth is nice this time of year though. It seems like your whole life you are always wanting to be older. But once you finally reach that age you just wanna go backwards. Oh time you are a cruel mistress. My parents are anti-gun. My dad doesnt even watch any sports for crying out loud. I guess Misery will just keep us young kids down. The way i look at it is that guns are expensive so if a kid buys guns he wont be buying drugs or alchol becuase he will be broke! Maybe i will write my senator.

P.S. If any of you happen to swing buy Missouri and happen to lose a M9 on the side of the road and their happens to be a paper bag full of cash thats not a strawman transaction its a simple coincidence.

Get yourself a decent rifle or shotgun in the meantime if you don't already have one(or two). You can still buy those in Misery at your age. That should hold you over.

I suggest right now, you hang out with your 21+ year old buddies and head out to a local range that rents out handguns.

That'll be the best way to go...or you can save up more cash in 3 years and buy an AR15 AND a M9.
