Hi all. Just wanted to introduce myself. Fairly new to firearms, and excited to learn as much as I can. I have posted a couple of threads and grateful for all the helpful responses. I am currently still waiting on my FID and pistol purchasing cards. Been 7 weeks. Gotta love the bureaucracy of NJ. Anyway, glad to be here.

Welcome to you from the birthplace of American liberty... Virginia. You having to obtain an FID and then a purchase permit is so foreign to us Virginians. If I were of a mind to go to one of my local gun shops this morning and buy a handgun, there are four shops within 10 miles of my house, It would take all of maybe 15-20 minutes for the instant check and closing the sale and I would drive home with my new firearm. And I have done just that quite a few times when searching for stuff on the net and running across a gun that I had not considered before. My last purchase was like this a few days before Christmas. Saw something by accident that caught my eye. Did a little research, then figured what the heck. Drove to one of my local shops, my preferred one, and bought one. The instant check took a little longer (35 minutes) because this was December 21 and that shop was slammed from both the election and the incident at Sandy Hook, not to mention Christmas.
And while in there and making my purchase, my primary sidearm EDC was openly carried.
Southernboy, your world is much different than mine, and for no good reason. Purchasing is a pain too. Once you have your FID you need a pistol purchasing card to purchase a pistol. I applied for a few of those when i applied for the FID. so they should come together when they finally call me. If i did not apply for the pistol purchasing card it would take at least another 30 days for that. When i finally have all of that i can go to the shop, which by the way is a great one, and fill out more paperwork for the fed check. That takes another 3-4 days to complete. Then i can take my purchase home.
Fortunately for me i was able to do lots of research and check out the guns i was interested in during this time. Lucky for me the local shop had the one that i wanted. Beretta 92fs M9a1. So it is sitting there waiting for me to pick up.
I can only imagine what it is like to go into a shop, see something you like, and buy it within a half an hour, instead of felling like you are some criminal that needs to be fingerprinted, checked, background checked, mental health checked, and other nonsense before i can feel free to express my 2nd Amendment right as an American!
By the way, thanks for the warm welcome.
Slippery Pete!!!! Welcome from fellow South Jerseyian!!! I feel your pain!!
Sucks doesn't it? I see they cashed my check, but still nothing. Hoping it is at the end of the process and not the beginning. Where abouts in SJ are you?
Well look at it this way. You folks from New Jersey still have it better than those who live in New York. The really draconian law that was pushed by gov. Cuomo is so repressive. For those who have 10-round magazines, they are now required to carry no more than seven rounds from what I understand. That's going to really help if they are attacked by multiple BG's. The idiots who dream this stuff up should have to live by the same laws they pass for citizens to abide by. Perhaps then they might understand how really ignorant they are.
No, I doubt it. They'll continue to enjoy the privilege, power, and authority allowed them by their constituents while expecting the citizens to do as they say, not as they do. Typical statist elites.
Very true Southernboy. I just hope none of that garbage legislation finds its way to the garden state. There have been a bunch of crap pieces of legislation proposed in NJ just like NY. Instead of focusing on the real issues, they come up with crap to make law abiding citizens feel like criminals.
Thanks 30 rock. Where abouts in Sj?
