New member from NY and LA

Hi all,
I'm not exactly a new member but thought I'd introduce myself anyways!

My name is James and I live in New York and Los Angeles (travel a lot). I happen to have a passion for handguns, 1911s are my favorites. Some day I might get into rifles and shotguns too if those new gun control measures won't make it illegal.
I don't own a gun at the moment and never did but I decided to finally get one. Currently deciding which state to apply in.
Even though I never owned a gun I've been shooting them since I was around 6 years old and I've shot a big variety from handguns to hunting rifles, shotguns and even a good selection of full auto "assault rifles" as they like to call them now while I was still a kid.
I lived in Russia until I turned 16 and my grandfather owns quite a bunch of different firearms there to this day.
Since I moved to the US I've been limited to the somewhat poor selection of rentals at the local ranges but this limitation made me appreciate handguns even more.
So the time has come for me to become a proud gun owner and I've already done my first steps towards it- joined the NRA and GOA. And I'm going to apply for a gun permit within a month or so. In the meantime I'm doing my research on the guns I like (a lot of the research is done on this forum, thanks for all the help!).
Hopefully I will acquire my first gun pretty soon!
