    Hi, I'm Smitty

    And I am a hand gun newbie. I shot a lot of small bore rifle as a kid. I shot expert with rifle and pistol in the service. But I haven't owned firearm in over 30 years. I have a fairly active thread in the new to hand gun section. Looking for a great general purpose defense gun.

    I live near Portland Oregon. If anyone is in the area and knows where you can rent 9mm or 40 SW semiautomatics in greater Portland. Please let me know.

    Welcome to the forum. I know nothing about the portland area but I woulod think they would have public ranges somewhere. Suggest googling gun stores, even Bass or Cabelas but mostly stores, and then see if they have a range. Talk to the guys at the counter and they should be able to steer you to one or two.

    Probably a great gun. I have tried multiple DA/SA guns and I don't like them. I haven't liked any semi-auto's that weren't striker fired. Maybe once I get more hand gun experience, I will give the DA/SA's another look.
