Punch in your zip code and you will see NRA-certified classes near you.
Good luck. Good shooting.
Howdy from Texas, just south of Houston a bit.
I'm 48 yo. Had a ton of hunting experience with long guns up until about age 25, but nearly none since. I have almost no handgun experience. Bought a S & W sd9 ve 9mm last week to get me started. (Money was/is an issue.) Hope to get some shooting instruction at a near by range.
I will be lurking on here a lot in an effort to learn, and will no doubt post some newb questions.
Anyways, just wanted to say howdy
Spencer

Hi there from (at this moment) Arizona. Classes are a very good idea, sounds like you are going about the new to handguns the right way.
Don't know what happened. Posted twice, so removed one.
Welcome, Spencermm.
There is a TON of information on the internet. Ask your questions, we'll be glad to discuss answers with you or point you to where you might find your answers.
I'll give you a bit of general advice. Prepare your mind for the possibilities you may face. It is the most effective weapon you have against attacks and it is the one thing no politician can make illegal to carry. I'm NOT talking about being physically fit. I'm talking about being mentally 'fit' and very aware.
Hi and welcome, you made a good choice and a good value on that S&W.........
