Welcome to the site, but sorry about your luck in New Jersey.
Hey, i just recently went to the range with my buddy and im now persuing a permit. I live in NJ so i cant carry, eventhough i wish i could, ill be sticking to the range and HD. Looks to be an awesome forum you have here. Looking forward to spending time here. I will make my first purchase in about 3 months pending my permit so i have alot to think about in terms of my first purchase, and ill be looking to all of you for guidance in that. Thank you!
Welcome to the site, but sorry about your luck in New Jersey.
Welcome from the northern part of the PRNJ, figure on three months as the minimum, depend on the local Police Chief. Often times they drag their feet to delay the process as long as possible. If your wanting to purchase a pistol don't just apply for one purchase permit, do two or three, if you see another gun you want you have the permit, otherwise you have to go through the process all over again and end up waiting again. For the $2 that the permit cost avoid the additional expense and delays. The purchase permit is good for 90 days and can be extended once.
Welcome. I am an NJ native now living in Westchester Co, NY. I too am twiddling my thumbs waiting for the authorities here, in their wisdom and benevolence, to issue me my permit (4-6 months). I did alot of research and shot several models that I was interested in. I chose a CZ-75 SP-01 and an FNH FNX-9. One is all steel and one is polymer, I wanted one of each. Both are 9mm, so I can practice tons while keeping costs down (and 9mms are FINE, just fine for HD...uh oh, caliber debate to start in three, two, one...). These are excellent firearms made by long-standing premier firearms companies, even if they aren't as popular as others like S&P, Sig, Ruger, etc. No right or wrong, just my choice. I would note that CZ has an intensely loyal base of devotees and few detractors, so it is at least worth checking their products out to see if they appeal to you.
BTW, are you in Northern NJ? Where do/will you shoot?
Welcome also from Jersey. Got my permit in 6 weeks. Like thndrchiken said apply for 2.
My municipality is Hamilton twp, mercer county. took my buddy almost 3 months but 2 of the clerical people were on vacation for 2 weeks each. So im hoping it doesnt take me that long. To shoot though, I go over the brigde into PA to a range called ready aim fire for now. Thanks for the welcomeing!
I also plan on applying for 2 permits. I was looking into the sig 2022 9mm and the ruger sr22 to start with.
It's not the clerical staff that has anything to do with it. There will be one detective that has the responsibility of processing fid and purchase permits, then goes to the chief for final approval. I know the area where your at, I work in Princeton, well it's actually South Brunswick but has a Princeton address. You might want to check into the Central Jersey Rifle/Pistol Club. Membership can be a little pricey but you get a lot for the price.
Hi and welcome.....JJ
Welcome to the board
I am also new i have been coming to the forum for the past month, learning everything i can about handguns and soon will be taking a course with a friend of mine so that i can be taught what i need to know from beginning to end on handling, firing, cleaning etc, most of all how to handle a firearm
just to let you know that this group is great i have learned alot from this group and ask what ever you need too, and they will help.
also i am in NJ, live in Hamilton NJ i will be looking for people to go with to the range besides a friend of mine that is my neigbor as they will be moving to FL
so what do you think your interest is, which Handgun do you have any idea yet?
Lisa
Hello:
I just saw your post i am also in Hamilton NJ Mercer county and will be going to the same range, a friend of mine who is my neigbor and i are going to be taking a course from a guy in East windsor, maybe you know of this person?
my neigbor did not take long to get his permit so he can have his guns sent to a local place because his brother has them and they have to be shipped
I'm new to this forum. I'm a former NJ resident and am considering moving back when the time and money are right. What I'm confused about is the purchase permit for buying firearms in NJ. I live in PA where you can buy as many weapons as you can afford and just have a 3 day waiting period. I'm alson not happy about not being able to get a license/permit to carry.
Welcome to the forum. I can't believe the crap some of you guys have to go through to buy a gun. That's friggin' ridiculous.
Yeah it really is bullcrap, considering i live near trenton, camden, philly and NY. all places where someone can walk around for an hr or two and buy one illegally. But Me, the one that wants to protect myself and family and shoot at the range has to wait 3 months for an overpaid desk police chief to ignore my application for 3 months.
Welcome to the forum, you might give some thought to moving to a more 2nd amendment friendly location. I left Kommiefornia a couple of years ago and other than the weather I don,t regret it a bit. Why support a gov. with your taxes that does not respect of follow the Constitution?
Welcome to the site!

What part does the State of New Jersey not understand about "the right to bear arms shall not be infringed"? I don't recall reading anything in the Bill of Rights pertaining to "the right to delay"? Assuredly, their hopes and wishes are for only the government to be armed and not the people.
