Just saw this forum and decided to become a member. I don't own any guns yet but I'm planning on purchasing an M&P 9mm soon. I'm currently serving Active duty in the Army Reserve, living in the Chicago suburbs. I have been around guns my whole life and am a decent shot. Thanks for having me here!

Welcome from Jersey... And thank you for your service.
Welcome from SE Texas.
Thank you for your service to our nation.
The M&P is a great platform so you should be very satisfied with this pistol. If it comes with the usual gritty/sandy trigger (pre-travel or takeup if you will), consider installing an Apex Tactical USB (Ultimate Safety Block). This little gem will completely remove that gritty feeling and return not only a smooth trigger but one which feels lighter to boot. And to get a more crisp break, install the Apex hard sear.
The M&P is a fine gun with excellent ergonomics and is a natural pointer for most folks.
Ahh yes, Illinois, the ONLY state in the union without carry rights... I didn't even know that ANY state had carry rights until I went to basic training in 2007. My buddy was talking about the guns he carries. I asked him if he was a cop and when he explained that he was just a citizen that carried I has shocked.
Welcome from another Midwesterner.........that Chitown, and Illinois is a rough place for handguns.........good luck with whatever you purchase.
The M&P is a good pistol and good choice. As mentioned by SouthernBoy one or two low cost parts from Apex Tactical will make it even better. The Apex USB, about $35, will instantly take the grittiness, if present, out of the trigger pull. Don't take us wrong, the Trigger is ok as received and will smooth out over time by wearing in as is the case with most new guns. The Apex parts just make it a lot smoother right away.
