Selecting a Handgun for Self Defense
Selecting a Handgun for Defense: Pt. 2- Revolvers
Good Morning. Just joined this forum in hopes to be schooled by everyone on handguns, as I am just getting into them.
I am looking for links to good forum talk about handgun pros and cons of different models. I am looking into buying one, and not too sure what to get. I am going for my CPL training in about a month, and once I get my CPL, I will be looking to purchase one, so want an idea of what to look for. Now I know everyone has there taste, and thoughts on good and bad, so I won't ask that question, just give me some ideas of your likings.
Thanks, bigdrowe

Thank you for the links. Hopefully I can get other people to reply on here.
How is this site, as far as help and information. Reason I ask, is I am a frequent user of DooTalk.com, and that is a great site to learn ANYTHING about skidoo snowmobiles.
Just curious as to the amount of activity on this forum.
Thanks
Better than some, worse than others. Most of it depends on the quality of the question that is asked.
Questions like, I want to buy a gun, what should I buy? Are typically disastrous as it's simply not enough to go on.
You will get different types of answers or combinations of them.
1: Get ____ because I own one and like it.
2: No one can tell you what to buy, you need to go to a gun shop, and go with "what feels best in your hand"
3: Same as #2, but add in try and find a shop that rents guns at their range and shoot a bunch of stuff and buy what you like best.
#3 is the best advise.
What is true here is that the more thought and effort you put into your questions, the more effort members will put into their responses.
Good judgement comes with experience, experienve comes from bad judgement.
Hi and welcome.....Simply a handgun is a tool and different jobs need different tools......JJ
My advice is to read carefully VA's very informative posts on choosing a handgun. I read alot of gun magazines and research the internet and likewise have owned, trained with, and have carried for quite some time, that being said, above is all you need to know about selecting a handgun in a nutshell. The rest of course will be determined by what fits and shoots for you the best. A quality reliable pistol from a quality manufacturer as VA has implied is where to start. The only problem is that the current market has so many great ones narrowing it down may be a bit challenging.

Absolutely! I have been looking around, and researching, and trying to narrow it down is tough. I am liking the Ruger SR40c features and style, and kind of the glock too. I need to find a range or two here and rent and shoot a few different guns. I have narrowed it down to a 9mm or .40 cal, whatever the brand may be.
Thanks, and looking forward to learning a great deal from this site.
I've got one word - Beretta!
Where about in southeast Michigan are you located? We have family just north of the big city of Britton (as in "go to the Cabella's water tower and turn west")
Welcome from the HOOSIER state!
