hello everyone

Hello, my name is James. I live in the Miami area of Florida.
I grew up here, and my dad was a police officer, so I grew up around guns of all kinds. But the funny thing is, I've never owned my own handgun, which is why I joined up- to learn more from lots of different people with different opinions. I'm actually kind of embarrased that I no so little about guns- the only gun I've ever fired was my dad's service revolver and his shotgun..... but that was a LONG time ago. I've went to some gun retailers and talked with them, but of course, like anybody selling anything- guns, cars, washing machines- they're going to sell you on what's best for them, but maybe not for me.
I'm 48, but for most of my adult life I was with my first wife, and she hated guns, she let me keep my dad's old shotgun in a closet, but once we had kids- she said NO GUNS in the house. Well, I'm sure I know what most of you here would think about that, but hey, love will make you do things, or at least go along with things that maybe you wouldn't otherwise.

But now I'm a single guy, and my neighborhood is slowly declining into a cesspool of human waste, and I want to get back into shooting, mostly target but maybe even some hunting down the line.
I've been a member of other non-gun forums of lots of different topics, and I've found it's a great way to learn and exchange ideas with like-minded people.... and I'm sure that this forum will be no different. I'm looking foward to getting to know some of you and learning and passing ideas around.

Thanks for having me here, I hope that I'll have some things to bring to the table.
