I am new to handguns and I just took my NRA course last Sunday. I am looking to get into target shooting as a hobby and to have a lot of fun. I joined a local range and I am now waiting for my permits. Connecticut take 8 to 12 weeks to process applications so it will be awhile before I can purchase my first handgun. I look forward to reading this site and learning more about handguns, shooting, safety, and the laws.
Thank you,
billd

Howdy neighbor,
I'm also new to guns, took my NRA basic course the end of Oct. Now, just waiting.

Welcome to the forum. Half of my enjoyment was researching the various guns available. I suggest reading the many reviews available, listen to the countless opinions, visit as many gun shops/shows and don't be afraid to ask questions. Good luck in your new hobby!

I'm a librarian, so when ever I start something new, I automatically go into research mode. One of the reasons I became a librarian was enjoying research.
The problem right now is it's frustrating reading reviews and opinions. I even been downloading manuals to understand how various models work, but I have no idea how long I'm going to have to wait before I can buy.
I can't even go into a store and do anymore than window shop.
Now that I'm approaching the end of my initial week wait, I'm going out of town for Christmas and New Years and won't be back until after the 1st.
Oh well, at least I can keep reading.

I took my course at a local gun store and I got a starter membership which entitles me to 5hrs of range time and 10 free gun rentals for $200.. The gun certification course was included and I get an 1hr free lesson. I have been shooting a lot. Shot a Glock 19, Walther P22, Glock 21 .45, and Sig .40 P239. Lots of fun so far. Six more guns and 3 and a half hours to go.
One week down and the wait continues for my permit.

That sounds pretty good. Maybe while waiting. I might take that for a refresher course and the rentals.
I can't find a place near me that will rent to me with someone with a permit. Someone said Wolf's in Southington rents as long as you have your certifcate of taking the course.
Where did you go?
Andy. Checking the mail everyday like a kid checking the chimmney for Santa
