Hello from central Connecticut

I just got my carry permit so I've been itching to pickup a piece. I won't be spending a lot of time at the range so I'm not afraid to spend a little more on ammo and go a little bigger in caliber.

When home it will be kept safely near my bed for easy access home security. I saw a real sweetheart of a pistol at the local gun shop about 2 weeks ago. Ever since then I've been drooling over the .45 acp Kimbers. Specifically the Ultra CDPs. These things are real pretty and not cheap.

Always looking at some other options around this price and/or quality.

If you're not going to practice OFTEN with what you purchase, then get a shotgun for the house and a baseball bat for your car. Not insulting you, but, if you don't practice then you won't be able to hit anything IF you do need it,doesn't matter what the caliber it is.Just my .02.:watching:

What tekhead said. Stick around, read a lot and learn. Then decide if you want an expensive, possibly high maintenance pistol that you aren't going to shoot often and won't become proficient with, but plan to use it to defend your life with. This is a great place with lots of great info. Don't let this or any other seemingly rude response discourage you, just do some searching on here and a lot of reading before prematurely jumping into purchasing a weapon for home/self defense purposes. TekHead - I appreciate your $.02 but perhaps I didn't communicate what I was trying to say effectively enough. I have friends that go to the range, sometimes a few times a week who are very conscious about the price of ammo. Although I will obviously familiarize myself with any purchase on a continual basis, I was only trying to state that I wouldn't be going to the range as often as my wacky pals.

Got the shotgun at home... good call on that one.

As for my thoughts on the Kimber...I'll bring them over to Kimber side of the forum. Those guys just love them over there.
