Hi All - My name is Dan. I grew up in Queens, NY and now am in Willimantic, CT for school. I grew up with guns in my house as a kid and was exposed to them in my brief stint in the boy scouts. Idk what this forum is like yet, since I haven't read any posts yet nor posted anything but this but my emphasis had always been safety with guns. Mostly my experience with guns has been for sport, target shooting etc, and lately I have been considering a purchase for my household. I just got married 6 weeks ago and our condo is in an area with some nefarious characters. I want to minimize the risk of harm to my condo neighbors from any stray fire (who share a common wall) while also being able to protect my wife. Additionally I enjoy shooting and, my wife - who has never fired a gun before, wants to learn how to use one. Anyway, I'll be posting more specific questions in other places but just wanted to say hi to all.

In terms of minimizing risk for your neighbors, practice and competence with the weapon are going to be key. As I've said many times before, any round that is designed to go through skin, muscle, bone, and organs is not going to be stopped by mere drywall.

Hey Todd - I'll check out the guidelines right now. Agree completely about practice and competence. My thinking has always revolved around 3 rules: 1) Always assume the gun is loaded. 2) Don't point the gun at anything you don't plan to shoot. 3) Don't shoot anything you don't plan to kill

Howdy Dan. welcome to the forum. your motives are the same as mine were. and my wife had never fired a gun either till I got a 22 then a 9mm. she now loves it and is a very decent target shooter.

see ya around.
Brent - Thinking of starting with a 22 myself. Might not stop someone big dead in their tracks without a decent torso shot but good for my wife to learn and good for accuracy, etc.

Thanks guys for the welcome mat.
