i am knew to the forum and i am about to purchase my first handgun. i am right handed but left eye dominant. i shoot long guns form the left. should i consider shooting a handgun from the left even though it feels a little awkward?

It's not uncommon to be cross dominant. While you certainly could train to shoot left handed as you have with long guns, I'd suggest sticking with your right hand for pistols, that is, if you are right handed. Instead of trying to fight the dominance issue, tilt your head slightly to the right and use your left eye to align the sights. The are thousands of shooters that have found success with this method and, under the stress of a potentially lethal encounter, you'll be using all your strong systems -dominant hand, dominant eye and consistent training. The other perk is not having to have specialized LH support equipment.
