Congrats!
I hope you enjoy your new weapon as much as the many others that own the same.
I purchased my first handgun today. It was something I had been planning to do for a while and finally decided to just go out and do it. I've always believed owning a handgun was almost a duty as an American and now finally I do.
Despite this being the first handgun I've ever owned, it certainly is not the first weapon I've fired. Twelve years in the US Army and I fired a weapon or two.
Anyway, I went with the Springfield Armor XD-9 and I like it a lot. I can't wait to get out to the the range and put some rounds through it.

Awesome choice!!! Don't be alarmed if, after firing your XD-9, you feel the sudden urge to own several more Springfields. This is normal.![]()
Thanks guys! Wow, so much to learn. I've been spending most of the night reading on these forums. I think I'll hit up a local Wal-Mart tomorrow to try and get some ammo, give the new weapon a good cleaning, and then hit a range Wednesday.
As for more, we'll see. I need to get my wife more into shooting first and then perhaps we can think about getting more. If it were only up to me, I'd have quite the armory already.

What the fellow Yamaha enthusiast said....
If you're new to the scene we might as well break it to you now; buying ammo off the shelf at your local retail store is becoming quite a chore, especially in the 9mm and 380ACP categories. Do not be surprised if you cannot find any.
Might I suggest checking out some of the popular online ammunition suppliers/retailers. While a lot of these suppliers are also experiencing shortages, your chances of finding fairly-priced ammo online are far greater than strolling into Wal-Mært. To name a few:

There are some more, just do some internet searching. Good luck!![]()

Welcome to the forum!
A friend of mine has several XDs and likes them very much, I have enjoyed shooting them and will adding an XDm to my collection soon. I am waiting to see if Springfield will offer the M series in a compact and a .45acp configuration.
Also, If you don't mind saying where in New Mexico you are located, I'm sure someone on the board could hook ya up with the lucky local ammo spot
I agree, will it only be a matter of time before Springfield comes out with the M in all sizes. I love the slide profile and other ergonomics, but had to get a XD instead, just for the size.
Thanks everyone!
Well, I hit three different Wal-Marts tonight and as predicted none had any 9mm ammo. I even stopped by a Big 5 Sporting Goods store and same thing. Ah well, I did get the cleaning stuff I needed so it wasn't a complete waste.
I'll look online for some ammo and just put off the range for a little while longer.
BTW, I'm in Albuquerque.

Hello from Minnesota
First trip to the range for me with my XD-9 and wow, it fires very nice.
I need to practice more, though. I seem to be hitting down and to the left while aiming at the center. I'm guessing it's a control problem on my part. Darn, I guess I'll have to shoot more.

Hey man congrats on the purchase. I have a major sweet spot for that gun. Super bang for the buck. My first gun was between a XD 9mm and a Sig P226 9mm. I went with the Sig and love it but I think I am going to have to pick up an XD one of these days.
