    Total gun newb from North VA

    Hi all,

    Complete gun newbie from North Virginia here, actually originally Kansas City, MO, just moved here last Sept. I have no military, law enforcement or gun experience and am really looking for information on handguns.

    If anybody could recommend books, magazines or websites for a complete utter noob about handguns I'd really appreciate it. I'm essentially just a citizen concerned about my own safety with all the stupid violent vulgarities on the streets and looking to get a handgun for personal safety and maybe some recreational shooting just to improve my marksmanship.

    welcome to the forum! im sure youll enjoy it and learn alot!

    as far as your question goes, im fairly certain everyone on this forum will tell you to take a saftey class (and you should). and this website has a lot of great info on it as well, hope it helps!

    That was my first thought. I don't have a hand gun yet, do I need one for a safety class? XD Sorry if these are really dumb questions. Thanks.

    By all means read all you can and get an understanding, but definately take a safety course. Reading is great but there is no substitute for hands on learning. I imagine if you check with some of your local gun stores they could hook you up with someone that could get you some training and hands on help. Good luck and welcome.

    i doubt a saftey class is required to get a handgun, but its definitly a good idea to get one. you may have to get a permit to get a handgun though, you do here in nc.



    this should be a pretty good place to look to double check
