The Socialist Republik of Kalifornia laws are much different than those of the Free States. The following link might help you a bit. Some Counties issue CCW's some do not. Which area are you in?

    Welcome from Northern Colorado.

The website above from TOF is a great resource for gun and CCW laws.

    Welcome,

There are some requirements that need to be fufilled before buying a handgun in California. Transporting and transporting loaded is a another story. Obtaining a CCW in California is not an easy task. Vist the CA DOJ website, and, good luck.
Man's got to know his limitations.

Welcome from a fellow Californian. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have. They don't make it easy, but if you pay attention and have patience you too can own a handgun in CA.

    Start here: http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/hscinfo.php

This will tell you how to go about obtaining your CA HSC. It's EASY and pretty much common sense.

Then, once you have your HSC you can search this link: http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/

This link will tell you which guns are certified safe by the state of Ca for sale in CA.

After you pick a few, come back and we can discuss which is best for you.

I do recommend that you go to your local gun range and 1) get some basic instruction and 2) rent a few guns if possible to see which ones appeal to you.

    New in California

    Welcome from Missouri.
I can't advise you on California law, but I can tell you your concerns - your reasons for wanting to arm yourself - are shared by quite a few people and for the same reasons.

Welcome! I'm in CA too. It's actually quite easy to legally own a gun in our state. You just have to take a very easy written test to get your certificate, pass a brief safe gun-handling test, then be willing to wait 10 days for a background check.

On the other hand, getting a CCW will most likely be difficult.
