Welcome from the people's republic of.....NJ! You've come to the right place. Tons of great info here, as well as some phenomenal people! Enjoy your new piece, it will certainly not be your last.
Just wanted to say hello to all. I found this site through FnForum.net and I must say there's a ton of great info here. Im mostly new to shooting, especially handguns. But I recently realized the need for personal and home defense so after a month or so of research I purchased an FNP40 last weekend at the DFW gun show. Havn't had a chance to shoot it yet but should be able to run 150 or so rounds through it this Sunday.

I got a decent set of hearing muffs from Academy for about $17 or so. There are some cheap ones and high end ones. Look at the rating number to see the protection level. Skip the lowest ones.

About $20 bucks, electronic allows you to hear between shots. We were introduced to these by 2400.
Wife and I have found it to be more comfortable to wear foam ear plugs in addition to the ear muffs. With the electronics you can actually hear better than if you just had the foamies in.
Hey! I just noticed they even have a video at that link.

These work well for that price? I generally see these around $100. Never thought the cheap ones would be good.
Well, I've never worn a pair of expensive ones, so I can't give you a comparison, but I can tell you they work as well as my non-electronics I bought from Wal-Mart many years ago.
And I can tell you I can hear people talk better than when I'm not wearing them (with foam earplugs).
And I can tell you that they shut out the sound when a gun fires.
It seems I recall that they are rated at cutting out more decibels than some of the more expensive ones we looked at.

Thanks!
I'll try those out for sure. The price is right!
Thanks for the help.
