Well, I have narrowed the field down to 2 finalists. They seem to be on opposite ends of the spectrum and I would like some good input from everyone.
Option #1 XD .45 Compact
I like the idea of this gun. The whole 2 guns in one thing, a service model and a CCW. I have held an XD .40 and liked the feel of it but I wish the .45 came in a stainless steel slide. I think the black is kind of ugly ( Not a deal breaker though ). I also like the capacity, 10 rds in the CCW mag. Would like to shoot one before purchase, but no one around me seems to carry the model I want. Though I have 1 more gun store to visit and they may have one.
Option #2 Bersa Thunder .45 Ultra Compact
I have not used this gun either, but I have held the .380 and I know I will eventually buy one of these at some point. Too good of a deal to pass up. I know the last gun store I will visit has 8 of these in stock. I love the way this gun looks, especially in nickel. I like this guns price and it seems to have a decent following. Based on comments here and on the web I believe that the gun will be very reliable if cared for properly.
I think both guns have their advantages and disadvantages. Both guns are very similar in size and conceal-ability. I think there is more aftermarket support for the XD, but I feel the Bersa will catch up if it's as good a deal as everyone seems to think it is. The only real problem I have with the Bersa is the smaller ammo capacity 7+1 as opposed to 10+1 in the XD. I like the idea of more bullets, but realistically, in most self defense situations fire less than 3 rounds so I think it's more mental than anything else. Oh and prices are of course a factor. I can get the Bersa for $370 in the store. But the XD I cannot find in a store so far, but it at buds for $503 I think. I would really like to get it under $500 complete.
Anyways sorry for the long post, but I would love to hear what everyone thinks as far as the guns go. Who knows, chances are that eventually I will end up with both.
Tscott: Sir; my shooting buddy has both: XD 45 and Xd 9.
In some of my previous postings concerning the two. They are A1. Good handle, easy sights, ease of operation.
Sir; I shoot Glocks and will probably [more than likely] not change. That being said;
I've had the opportunity of shooting one while the other was loaded. Ease of handling.
Couldn't/didn't really notice a difference in which was which; enjoyed both.
Would I recommend the XD? you'll not be disappointed.
I don't think I will be disapointed with either. As a matter of fact I positive I will not. At this point it is like choosing between a dodge viper and corvette Z06. They will both be great but you just have to make the choice.
I'd get the XD
better company more known and don't let $3 plus tax scare you from a really good gun
