    45acp/45Auto

    This may sound like a dumb question but, are these the same thing??Very new to the handgun world.

    .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) and .45 Auto are different names for the same thing.

    There is another cartridge -- now obsolescent -- called the .45 Auto Rim, which is different. The .45 ACP/.45 Auto case is rimless. The .45 Auto Rim is the same ballistic package but in a rimmed case so it can be fired in revolvers without using a "moon" clip."

    Sometimes people (like the highly trained firearms experts at WalMart) confuse .45 Auto with .45 Auto Rim, and hijinks ensue.
