    First Handgun

Hey guys what's up? I'm new to the forum and am considering purchasing my first handgun and was looking for some recomendations? I believe I want something in a 9mm to start with and was leaning towards XD-9, Glock 19, Sig 226 or a Kahr..I would really appreicate any input you guys have. I am familiar with guns and own a few rifles myself but I have never owned a handgun and only shot one maybe like 3 or 4 times at the range..

I stand by my usual response when people ask what gun they should get; rent them and buy the one you like the best. You need to choose the gun that's right for you, we can't make that decision for you. What might be a great gun for me, might be horrible for you. Go with your gut.

    Ditto.

Of the guns listed, all are great guns but each is different from the other.

Trying out guns: renting, shooting different kinds, different calibers (don't get your mind set on one caliber until you've shot several), doing research. That's a big part of the fun of gun ownership.

You learn what you want for your first gun, and you begin to get ideas of what you want for your second.

WARNING: ONE gun is never enough.

Don't sweat over the decision so much that you get paralyzed or lose sleep.

You will probably love whatever you end up with.

AND it helps to know that this will not be your only gun.

... You will probably be buying a second gun in the future.

    Enjoy the hunt!

Another vote for try them out and buy the one that fits your needs best. Of those you listed, I've shot them all except the Kahr. I own a SigSauer 229 and the XD9. I believe Glocks are like beer...it's an acquired taste, you either like the style or you don't.

Thanks guys appreciate all the input. I made a few phone calls and found some places that rent a couple of the guns I am interested in so looks like I'll be spending some time at the range this weekend..If anyone else has any suggestion on ones I should try to rent and shoot other than the ones I listed let me know..

You should try a revolver as well. Many folks rule them out before trying them.

Todd hit the nail on the head. Of the ones you listed, you won't go wrong no matter what you choose.

Well fellas thanks for all the input..Went out and shot the XD Service 9mm, Glock 19, and M&P 9mm and was pretty much a toss up for me..All seemed like great guns and I shot them all pretty much the same..I am leaning towards the XD right now because it felt the best in my hand.. Didn't even notice the safety on the handle as well..Found one for $479 and think that is the way I am going to go..
