    XD v. Px4 v. P944

I have finally decided on caliber which is going to be .40cal. so please don't try to sway me out of it. I still want some opinions of these guns. Haven't heard much about the P series from Ruger on here yet. My dad has a P89 I shoot way to left with it. But I like some of its features which seem to be similar on the Px4 but the XD is quite a bit different. Please posts some opinions or facts on the comparison of the three. I already know the prices between the three. Basically recoil, reliability, accesory availability, and maintainance issues with the three if possible. Thanks for any help.

    Nate

I have never shot the P-89 but they must a good gun as there is a lot of folks who like them. I have shot the XD and Px4 and IMHO I like the XD on the range and I think the Px4 would be better for CC. In all fairness to the XD I shot was a full size .45 so I would say a .40 compact might be just fine for CC. Far be it form me to try and talk you of the .40 as I like that caliber myself.

    Best Baldy.

My dad had one problem with his.

He bought it from a cop that only had it for a few years, can't really remember. The malfunction happened when my uncle and his sons were out shooting it. They were just target shooting and the slide stuck open. The thing would not move at all. Of course I was just sitting there and my dad said here fix this. So I said ok. Downloaded a manual from the net. played with it a while and it damned near took the tip of my finger off. Dissassembled and cleaned it according to the manual, now it works better than when he bought it a few years ago.

I've shot the p89 and the p90 (.45's). I like them, though they are clunky. The trigger on the P90 that I've messed with isn't too bad, with a nice smooth double-action pull.

I personally like the features they have, decockers, safeties, etc. But Beretta and H&K have the same features.

While I like the Glock-style, I tend to prefer those other little features. I shot a xd 9, and it didn't suit me very well. I thought it kicked much differently than anything else. I'd rather have the Glock than the XD.

So to me, the PX4 seems like a winner. I have shot a Cougar in .40 quite a bit. I think it recoils less than other .40's that I have messed with, so I'm somewhat of a fan of the rotating barrel system.

I haven't shot the PX4 yet. But if it handles like the Cougar, I think I'll like it.

I just recently shot a buddy's XD 40 sub compact and loved it. I mean that thing is small & nice, when he's CCW, he sometimes forget its on him...
Can't comment on the others at all since I haven't actually shot or handled them.
Hope this helps you out some.

    Shot two of the three

I have a PX4 .40cal and I really like it. It's very accurate and shots softer than the XD 40. My buddy has an XD40 and I've shot it many times and really like the gun. It shoots very well, even though it's got a little more recoil than the PX4. But what is good shooting for me doesn't mean it's good for you. I would try to find a range what you can try them all out and see what works best for you. As far as reliability, I have about 1200 rounds through my PX4 and haven't had an issue at all. It's very easy to take down and clean too. My buddies XD has about 2200 rounds through his with no problems and he said it too is easy to take down and clean. I hope this help you out some.

I have an XD40 Tactical. Over 4000 rounds without a hickup. Accurate and ALWAYS goes boom and gets ready to do it again. I don't know about the others.
