S&W M&P
Ruger
Hey everybody. I am quite new to this forum and have been trying to do some research for my next pistol purchase.
I am trying to decide which .40 S&W to purchase.
One thing that I would really like to do, is buy an American Made pistol. Not one imported from Germany or Croatia.
I am not saying that those other guns are not good weapons.
I just feel the need to buy American.
I read on Kimber's site that the KPD is Made in America.
Does anyone know of any other .40's that are made here at home?
S&W M&P
Ruger
I too have been looking for a gun, although not necessarily American made. Anyways, one of the pistols in the running is an S&W M&P. I've done a bit of research and it looks like a fine pistol. Definitely made in America too.
Define American made... Its a tough thing to get a straight answer from any company regardless of what they make, because of people refusing to buy things not 100% USA made. I personally would look for quality, reliablity and fit/feel in your hand before worrying about where it was made, although I'd like to always buy USA made too. (I also would buy a 9mm or 45cal because I never bought into all the 40cal hype and BS. 40cal is a good round, just not earth shattering compared to a 9mm)
Had a coupel of guys last year at the range bragging about their "USA made" pistols, they where Springfield XD, Springfield 1911 and a Rock Island Arsenal 1911, alone with a couple of others and that thought I was an idiot for telling them they were not made in the USA.
For me when I take into account fit, feel, reliablity and best bang for buck I always rely on Taurus first.
Here's a question... do you want American made or an American company?
What hberttmank said,,,,, M&P. Great gun, all of them.

Isn't Kahr also American? I highly recommend Ruger and Smith & Wesson. You can't go wrong with either.
All parts are made in house for the S&W and Rugers unless they have changed in the last two years. Read a article in a gun rag to that effect. We all know they wouldn't tell a tail about that would they?
I know at least that Ruger wouldn't considering their investment casting business. To not take advantage of their own facilities would only cost them money. I believe this is also the reason why their products are reasonably priced.
I would think that Smith & Wesson moving the manufacture of their parts overseas would lead to a lot of lost business. They have a lot riding on their name. They have done enough in the past decade to anger their fans. That would likely be the last straw.

FN plant ib SC makes FNP9 & FNP40![]()
Smith & Wesson and Ruger make .40-caliber pistols entirely in the United States. I'm very fond of my S&W M&P 9mm compact.
ive got an M&P in a 40s&w ... love it!
I have heard good things about Springfield's XD, also.
Berettas are also manufactured in the USA although there are still some imported from Italy I believe.
have the chinese not started importing imitations of good name pistols
as they have so many other things. if so what are they called so i can avoid them.. ..no offence intended to any U.S. citizen.
KelTec
Taurus I think
Taurus is made in Brazil. XDs are made in Croatia. Rock Island in the Philippines. Springfield 1911s in Brazil, at least the rough forgings.
The S&W M&P is made here, and would be my pick of the guns mentioned so far. The Kahr pistols are great concealment guns, and I like 'em. KelTec makes awesome pocket pistols.
I'd pass on the FNs, the Rugers and the Kimber KPD. All have awful triggers. YMMV.
