Austria approves export of 30,000 handguns to Iran

    The Associated Press
    Published: February 16, 2007

VIENNA, Austria: Austrian authorities have approved the export of 30,000 handguns to Iran, local media reported Friday, days after a report that sophisticated Austrian rifles were finding their way into the hands of Iraqi insurgents.

Austrian media reported the pistols had been sold to Iran's interior ministry, which is in charge of the police force.

Austrian economic ministry officials told state radio that their ministry had approved the sale of the "Glock" pistols last month, saying Iranian authorities had provided documentary evidence that they would not be passed on to others.

As the Godfather said, "It's not personal; it's only business."

On the bright side, Glocks are notoriously dangerous in the hands of untrained people; they are more susceptible to Rule Three violations than just about any other handgun. It would give me great pleasure to learn of an epidemic of accidental self-inflicted 9mm injuries among the jihadi.

Show the money! No loyality in this day and age. Hell, this country (America) has sold arms to many covert nations. Some have been turned against us. Once again, show me the money! The selling of arms will continue today and far into tomorrow. A slimy fact of doing business.

This bothers me because Iran is known to be a bad nation in this time in history and can not be trusted not to use those Glocks on our guys. Yes, the US as sold guns to other nation that were eventually used on us but at the time they were friends and not foes.

This does cause a little trepidation in my loyalty to Glock.

You are correct and I agree with you. On the other hand, maybe you and I along with others have had the wool pulled over our eyes. We (the little people) are not exactly in the "US Arms" for sale loop. But, I'll bet the Austrian government doesn't feel Iran is a threat to them. They just don't get it. Hell, they were asleep when Hitler was planning war. And he is next door. We as Americans know the entire middle east nation is a threat to freedom throughout the world. It will probably come back to haunt their country. I stand by my original comment, show me the money! Don't worry about the dirt. We'll clean it off.
