Need some help

I currently own S&W Airweight, T/C Contender, Rifles (Marlin, Remington, Winchester, M1 Carbine) And several shotguns. I am not new to weapons but have to admit that my knowledge of semi-autos is limited.
Am thinking on giving up on the revolver and purchasing a 45 cal semi-auto. I live in Montana and like to hike the back trails. Its the firepower that has attracted me to the 45 auto (my T/C Contender is a 44 mag. but its a single shot).
I am looking to spend $500 - $600. Anyone have any suggestions on a good, reliable back woods semi-auto.

For 5-600 you can get either a CZ 97 or a bersa thunder 45, Id go with the CZ .I have a CZ rami in 9mm and it aint even hiccuped yet:mrgreen: :mrgreen:

You have quite a bit of good options in that price range. If you are looking at polymer framed guns a Glock 21 or an XD 45 would be a good choice. If you like the clasic 1911 I bought a Springfield Mil-spec new for my dad ($540.00) for my dad and he loves it.

CZ 97 is a good gun but quite heavy. If you like Glocks the 21 is a good gun but the grip leaves alot to be desired to me. Too large for my hand. A Springfield 1911 is a good choice. One other one to consider is an EAA Witness .45. Damn Fine weapon!
What about a good 6/7 shot revolver in .357 or 44mag? You like your T/C 44mag! A good revolver in either of those two calibers would be fine protection also.

1911s are always a good choice. I can't believe I'm suggesting it, but the Glock 21 would be a good choice for what you want, too.

The price they list on the website is way higher than I've ever seen it in a store. I think we had it for $650. It is really light weight, great sights, etc.

But for a semi-auto and what you want it for... I'm gonna actually vote for the Glock 21.

Ruger P90. Solid as a rock and twice as heavy.
Maybe a XD45, which i really like.

I always thought the Rugers looked a heck of a lot heavier than they really are. Not too bad weight wise, really.

Then again, I do carry a Sig and that is one heavy puppy.

I second the recommendation to look at a Ruger P90, especially one with the Hogue finger groove grips.

Good suggestions. After doing DD as best I could, have decided to go with the SA Mil-Spec. Seems like a all around fine weapon. Basic and reliability was what I was looking for.
Now to chase down the best price for the PB9108LP. I have no dealers near so I guess it's the web for me.
