Factory mags and MecGars are excellent ( they make a lot of the "factory" mags for different companies).
i need a little enlightenment on aftermarket magazines. i usually stick with factory made since i got burned with cheapo non-factory mags in the past. which brands are good and which are junk? which manufacturers make the mags for big gun companies? thanks
Factory mags and MecGars are excellent ( they make a lot of the "factory" mags for different companies).
Yep, MecGar makes the mags for Walther P99s. They also made mags for Beretta once upon a time. And, they still make for other companies. That is the ONLY aftermarket mag I'd buy.
I agree. MecGar are quality brand magazines. In fact, they may be the prime supplier of factory magazines. But, if you purchase one and compare it to the factory magazine and they look different, don't freak. Here is a picture of a factory Sig 229 magazine on the left. The MecGar is on the right. If you look closely, the follower cutout on the top is slightly different. The bottom base is different as well. Both function perfectly. Except for one difference. The factory 10 rounder mag holds nine. The tenth has to been forced and is very diffucult to load with a mechanical handheld loader. The MecGar loads flawlessly, all ten rounds. Go figure...

I have used a few different ones and IMHO MecGars are the best out there and you can catch them on sale at Midway. They will not break your piggy bank to buy them.
I've been burned every time I bought an aftermarket magazine. I'll have to try a MecGar.
I forgot to mention Wilson Combat mags for 1911's, they're great. I have a couple of dozen of them and in over 150K rounds fired I've never had a mag related problem.
good deal. i really wanted some advise on it before i hit the gun show next month and end up with $100 worth of crummy mags. thanks all!
STAY AWAY FROM USA!!
Those mags are terrible.
I have to parrot everyone else. Wilson Combat for 1911's and MecGar for nearly everything else.
I was dissapointed in the ProMags I bought. Not bad for range work, but will FTF rather often.
Well, w/ 1911 mags, there are a few different ones U can use. I avoided that topic because it didn't seem to apply. My responses was more on any after market mags except 1911.
Just to be safe I only use factory. That is the ONLY way to go with HK's.
ProMags=JUNK!! bought 2 or 3 problems with all of them!!
I have heard nothing but good things about Mec-Gar. So, I bought two of them. (Blue, 7-rounders.) Both near 100% UNreliable. With hardball. In all guns (which work fine with all other magazines). Money down the drain.
Sorry to hear that. Your the frist guy I know that has had trouble with Mec-Gars. My 8 and 10 rounders have been flawless. I would get some Wolff springs and try in them. There not that expenseive and it might help you find out what the problem is. Good luck.
