I have mine covered on my home owners. I think up to $2500 is automatically covered on my Statefarm homeowners policy here in Texas. I pay like $6 a year extra to cover up to $5k in firearms. They won't go above $5k. After that, U have to insure guns seperately at a prorated fee depending on their value. And, that would only cover theft and not fire.
But, if ya have under $5k worth, ya need only worry about the extra few dollars a year. Now, this is Texas - Statefarm operates a bit differently in each state due to different laws in each state.
I was told I just needed the receipt and the owners manual to make a claim. I have the receipts and manuals locked up in my bank box.
You might sleep better if you upgrade to a safe and bolt it in the floor. If they really want your guns they will take them, we need to make it harder on them and the longer it takes and the more noise they make evens the playing field and their changed of getting caught are greater. I sleep like a baby now and I don't worry about leaving the home. I do have a brand new home with a alarm which is also nice. I also have a 10 pound dog name billy bad ass and will go right for your ankles.
Yes you need to. I have to have serial numbers. So I took pictures of all my guns and put them on a cd along with the value of them and date bought. I have a copy and three of my daughters have copies.
It would not hurt to insure them, but it would also help to secure the locker and alarm the room around them.
Thanks for the replies. I do have the serial numbers recorded and photos. Will call my agent for a rider add-on.
