    Any9X18 shooters here?

I had the chance several years ago to by a Makarov (Russian) when they were dirt cheap but my dealer talked me into a Taraus snubnose .38spl which I got rid about a year latter.Looking thru the Shotgun news this morning I see a FEG PA63 for $199.95 and a surplus CZ-82 for $229.95. Ammo looks cheap for this caliber and should make a fun plinker.I haven't seen anyone post on these caliber guns a wonder what ya'll think of 'em?Randall

I have 3 guns in 9X18. Two Maks and a PA63. They are all very accurate, probably due to the fixed barrel design. Makarov.com has a spring kit for the PA63 that really improves the trigger pull and felt recoil. I carry my PA63 quite often. It functions perfectly with fmj ammo and shoots where I point it. The Maks are pretty heavy as they are an all steel gun, but in a decent holster, they are not bad for carry. Seems ammo has gone up around a buck a box lately. I still feel it is a bargain for inexpensive guns that shoot so well. PA63s were going for $159.00 at the funshow yesterday in my area. Haven't seen any Maks around for a while. The last two I bought were $160.00 out the door for what appeared to be never issued guns with accessories. I would like to purchase a CZ82 when I find the right deal. I like the 9X18 and have never regretted purchasing my guns in that caliber.

I have a Bulgarian Makarov; while I haven't shot it that much, ammo is readily available and inexpensive. I bought mine because I didn't have one, and it was available at a good price.

The sights on mine are really tiny and not of much use, much like the sights on the FEG model. Of those two choices, I would get the CZ, it looks like it has better sights. I would think that the CZ was better quality as well.

Performance-wise, don't expect anything much better than a .380 caliber handgun.

I have always wanted a Mak, I hear they are extremely reliable. None of the shops around here seem to have one. I'll get one someday.

The best price I have seen around here for a CZ82 is $259.00, with some wanting close to $300.00. From what I've seen, your $229.00 price is pretty good if the gun is in good condition.

I don't have a Makarov but I do have a Polish p64 chambered in 9 X 18. It is 100% reliable and very accurate. The only draw backs is poor sights, 22lb DA trigger pull. I just shoot a mag or two through it once in a while to make sure all is ok because this gun takes a beating. Due to my job I can't carry on the belt or ankle so this goes with me to work in a pocket.
