steyr

Anyone have any info on the Steyr M-40? It looks cool, recoil looks like it isn't even an issue, sights are a little unusual, but the price is pretty decent. I need to find a range around here so I can rent one.

The people I have seen who own one always say positive things about them. I too would love to try one in 9mm. I had a bad experience w/ non traditional sights once (not being as accurate), so I'd have to rent one or shoot one 1st before I'd buy one. But they look interesting.

I have an M9 that I'm very happy with. The grip angle and trigger are very similar to a Glock. The trap sights work well at close range, at longer ranges I prefer conventional sights. For lots of info on Steyrs try here http://www.steyrclub.com/index.php

The trigger pull looks very short. How heavy is it?

I don't think that it is cocked in that photo.

Looks a lot like a Sigma to me, but I really like the sights. Granted, I haven't through them before, but I have a feeling they would work well. The newer M-1A pistols look a little bit cooler. Was always a fan of the GB.

SW, the trigger pull on mine is 5lbs. If you field strip one of these and look inside the slide, I think you will be pleased with the machine work and quality. I think they compare well with other Austrian and German pistols.

I see something that looks like a rail, more like some indentations. Is there any way to mount lights onto this weapon, and if so what kinds are offered?

I guess you could mount a light if you wanted to, I really don't know, I don't like lights hanging on my guns.

That is a rather strange looking gun...

That gun is the original version produced from 99-03(maybe 04). Back then all the companies (glock, HK, steyr, walther) were all putting out their own "rails" for accessories. If you want a standard rail you will need to go to a A1 series (m40A1, s9A1, etc). They also squared off the triggerguard face and texturized, and slightly recontoured the grip. There was a converter made by another Austrian company IGB but it is no w also very hard to find.
