    Please Help

First time purchasing a handgun. Never purchased my own I was thinking along the lines of a semi-auto. Been kicking around the .40 or .45??? I've shot Ruger 9mm & Glock 9mm. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would consider myself as an amateur in the handgun field. However with the rifle and shotgun i'm a little more experienced.

    Thanks

You didn' say what you will use it for ( carry or range). The Glock is probably more accurate. I, myself, shoot 1911 .45 acp style guns for range and carrry. I guess you have to decide what is comfortable for you. shoot as many as you can before bying. Make sure that you are familiar with it before you by it. Good lick and good shooting.

I like the .40 round and use it for my carry gun, but IMO, you'd be better off to go with the 9mm; especially if this is your first handgun. The recoil on the 9mm is more managable. Some people believe the .40 is too "snappy". The other big thing is cost. 9mm ammo is a lot cheaper than .40. Cheaper ammo = more range time = you getting better with the gun faster.

I agree with Benzbuilder in that you should try different guns at the range before you settle on one. Even guns of the same caliber will shoot differently. You need to find what fits you best.

In all honesty - a 9mm is probably best for your FIRST handgun. Ammo is cheaper, and recoil is less.

Try renting several guns, and see which you prefer to hold, and what trigger style U like (The Ruger trigger is different from a Glock)

Go get a 9mm Glock and take some training from the range or gun club in your area. Then you will know what you want for carry, home defence, & range.

Another vote for a 9mm as a starter auto. Make and model is and always will be up for debate. Just don't buy some cheapy brand made in a third world country.
