It sold, now how do I ship it??? HELP!

Well I got a call from my cousin this morning and the desert eagle is officially sold! I do have some concerns though. My cousin lives in Tennessee and I am in Ohio. When i bought the gun here I had to go through an FBI background check and have the gun regitered in my name. My cousin says in Tennessee all he needs is a receipt from me and that's it. I dont want to keep the gun registered in my name and I would assume he would have to register it into his name. But I really am clueless on diferent state gun laws.
He also said i could ship the gun VIA UPS hazardous? Is this true? How much does this usually cost and what do I need to know?

You will have to get a FFL holder in Ohio to ship it to another FFL holder in Tenn. These are your local gun store, shooting range, or pawn broker. They will charge a fee for the service, and the one in Tennessee will charge for his service. Guns have to be shipped over night registerd by UPS or the like. Your looking at another $50 to $100 bucks.

Your gun stor will usually charge U $25 + $25 or so to ship it (they can ship it cheaper than U can). Then, his gun store (with the FFL) will receive it and charge him $25 or so to process it. So, U are looking at another $50 at a minimum, as was said above.

I don't care for all of this FFL transfer stuff - and the buyer usually insists on a 3 day inspection period. That's why I only sell face to face. With Houston Austin and Dallas nearby, I usually sell guns in person pretty quick.

+1 with Ship. I don't sell to someone I can't look in the eye, and talk to.

Actually, you can ship it yourself to any out of state FFL holder... and if ownership is crossing state lines it MUST go thru an FFL on the receiver's end.

Yoou need to have your cousin pick an FFL dealer to receive the pistol, then you'll need the FFL dealer's license number. With that, go here to verify it is still valid and get the shipping address: https://www.atfonline.gov/fflezcheck/

Next, package the pistol and take it to FedEx for shipping (I use 2nd day).

+1, except that I believe FedEx currently requires Priority Overnight shipping on handguns. Theft issues with their "trusted employees," apparently.

I don't know the precise way it was accomplished, but I recently bought a handgun from a fellow on the SIG Forum - he sent it directly to my FFL from the FedEx office. He didn't use an 'originating' FFL. When I asked him about it, he insisted that it was completely legal. He'd shipped this way before.

My FFL didn't like it much, but there wasn't much they could do about it.

I sent an XD to a relative in Connecticut (from Arizona) by simply packing it up and shipping it to an FFL in CT. I sent it overnight via FedEx. I had the FFL's info on file. No problems, completely legal. Anyone can ship to an FFL (unless you are in a state with some odd laws).

Sis picked up the gun without incident. <shrug>

Yes, as long as the FFL will receive shipment from a non-FFL.
Some of them are picky about that, and I can't say I blame them.
