2 toys within a month....

Hi all.

I'm new to this board and this is my first post. Within the last month I've purchased two new pistols and thought I'd share my first impressions of each as well as ask what the overall opinion of each is from the members here. From what I've read so far, the members are quite a knowledgable crew. So here's what I bought:

MRI Desert Eagle .50 6" and a .44 6" conversion: I have about 100 rounds through this gun so far and am having a few minor problems with it but apparently all are pretty common as easily corrected. When using the .44 magazine, the last round NEVER chambers. The follower ramps are too steep. The slide occassionally hangs open a little. This is should correct itself as the gun is broken in but MRI is sending me new recoil springs anyway. Also, the ejector button in the bolt is misshapen slightly in that it is leaving a dent in the edge of the primer when chambering a round. I'm going to remove a little metal from it and polish it up. Other than these very minor new gun issues, I am very pleased with this gun. It looks awesome and is very well built. I've shot it using a rest at 50 yards and have found it to be very accurate.

SigArms P245 two-tone .45acp: I bought this as my CCW weapon. Obviously next to the DE, this gun is very easy to shoot, not to mention cheaper to shoot. It has 100 rounds through it now. The fit and finish of the Sig is great. I have found that I can recover very quickly from a fired shot. I absolutely love this gun. It doesn't have nearly the cool factor of the DE but it is much more practical.

I would love to hear the members' comments on these two guns both good and bad.

Nice toys! Although, the P245 I find to be a little more than a toy....

The only DE I've shot that did not malfunction was the 50 A&E. But, that might have been the luck of the draw as I've not shot a whole bunch of them. I still would not mind having one if they weren't so dad blamed expensive!

Welcome to Camp. I have not had an experience with either one of those pistol myself but I will say 2 nice guns in one month is good work on your part, congrats ... :smt023

Thanks all. Still hoping that there are some that have some experiences with the P245 though. Sig has recently discontinued this pistol. There isn't a lot of information out there about them. I don't know how long they were in production. I've heard that they discontinued it because of complaints that the grip was too short. I'm 6'3" with larger than average hands (evident from the fact that the DE grip isn't too big) and it's perfect for me. Actually that's the reason that I bought it when I did. Hell, I didn't need it. I picked it up and it felt like a natural extension of my hand. It's the best feeling gun I've ever held. Very natural feeling if that makes sense.

I haven’t shot either one so can’t comment. What I am thinking is that you must either be single or have one hell of a wife to buy two guns within one month. Three thumbs up to ya! :smt023 :smt023 :smt023

I'd love to have an MRI DE myself. As Hal said, the price. As I find the DE to be a beautiful pistol, I wouldn't mind seeing yours. So the DE seems to struggle with rimmed rounds?

No, not single yet. Going through a divorce and these were presents to myself. I've wanted a DE and a semi-compact .45 for a very long time. The soon to be ex-wife is terrified of guns so I haven't bought before now, but now her opinion no longer matters.

As far as struggling with rimmed rounds, nah. The broken-in DE will cycle pretty much anything you put through it. The things that I am dealing with are just small adjustments that need to be made. From everything I've read, it takes the DE 500 rounds before it really shoots like it's supposed to. It's a long break-in period but once it's broken in, it'll shoot forever trouble-free. I'm not sure what the deal is with the incorrect ramp angles on the .44 mag magazine followers. The .50 A/E mags are correct. The .50 followers work perfectly in the .44 magazines.

Anyway, still looking for a member familiar with the P245. Apparently these pistols are relatively rare.
