One of my friends is absolutely convinced that he wants a 10mm. He's been looking at the EAA Witness because he can get it relatively cheap and it's supposed to be pretty reliable.
Personally I think the gun is just about as ugly as they come, except for maybe a Hi-Point. Looks aside, anybody have any experience with them? Are they decent shooters?
I have seen a few people on other forums talk about reliability problems. But, I have read consistant comments all the time about how the company is so rude to people when U have a problem - basically telling you to go "F" yourself.
I would never buy one. But, I have no personal experience w/ them. Only what I have read...
I had one awhile back. Liked the looks but jammed all the time. Traded that off fast.
I have a EAA Witness Compact .45 and a TZ75 9mm (both are made by Tanfoglio of Italy). They have both been great guns especially the TZ75. I carry the Witness quite a bit as my primary CCW. EAA's customer service lacks a lot to be desired that's for sure, but the guns themselves are very good firearms. Just my opinion.
Best friend has a full size "Wonder Finish" 10mm with wood grips and loves it. He hasn't had any problems so he doesn't have any customer service history, good or bad. He carries it as his primary ccw. It shoots great and works everytime he pulls the trigger. He's had it almost a year. It seems to be a very good gun.
I would recommend against a 10MM for a couple of reasons. Overpenetration & actually FINDING readily available ammo are the two primary ones. 10MM is getting REALLY spendy, too, moreso than other calibers. That said, I own a Witness 10MM. It's a pretty decent gun. I have had NO problems with it at all. (Of course, I don't run Cor-Bons through it) Mine seems to prefer the CCI Blazer, but I can't seem to find them in 10MM any more and I can't use aluminum cased ammo at my local indoor range. I ran some Hornadays through it and they shot fine, but were less accurate than the cheap Blazers. What I DID discover is that it's very easy to modify the factory 10 rd mags to hold 14 + 1, (sometimes only 13+1, depending on the brand/style of ammo). All in all, if your friend is dead set on a Witness in 10MM, tell him to at least get an all metal one. The "wonder" finish is really easy to maintain. Honestly, I'd recommend a 9MM, a 40 S&W, or a 45ACP.

Buy a 9mm - $5 a box. Man, U can go shoot more often. Had 45s in the past - gets VERY expensive very quick...
45 is CHEAP compared to 10MM unless you can find it online, find & use some CCI Blazer, or reload yourself. I got my 10MM as it seemed practical for both hunting and a carry weapon. It's one of the few calibers in a wide variety of semi-auto makers that's eligible for big game hunting. Sure, you have the DE line, but DEs can be kind of spendy and they don't conceal real well.
Well getting ammo wouldn't be a problem, since we have a mutual friend who owns a gun store. Being said though it seems like it might be quite cost prohibative unless you intend to reload, which I doubt my friend does.
I honestly think he wants a 10mm for no other reason then to say that he has one. The funny thing is that he also wants to build a custom 1911. Personally I think I would suggest that he build a 10mm 1911. It can be done, it would look a world better than the Witness in my opinion, and it would certainly be "rare," which is what he's looking for. Granted it would cost a ton more than the Witness.
If he wants a 1911 AND a 10mm, he might want to start with a Colt Delta Elite. :mrgreen:Quote:

If it were me I'd go with the Kimber over the Colt, just looks better. IMHO.
