I noticed your gun list contains strictly all 9mm pistols :smt071
Any particular reason you prefer this caliber, just curious? Also, have you had any trouble with your Walther P99 with magazine bottoms blowing out? It seems there are a number of people out there who seem to have this problem.
Only the .40s had some issues w/ the magazines - And, they were mags that were a bit older. I've read that people have had them replaced, and they had no real problems. Apparently, there was a flaw w/ the baseplates. It did not affect the 9mm.
As for my P99 - I seem to be famous around here for my opinion of that gun - it is my all time fav. I've had absolutely zero problems with either of my P99's or my SW99 I have. In fact, I eventually wanna get another P99 w/ the QA trigger to give that a try.
Why do I have 9mm - I have always prev stuck w/ that and .45 ACP - I am not into .40, nor any other rounds. I believe my needs are met w/ either of these rounds. But, I decided to stick w/ just 9mm for now, because the ammo is 1/2 the cost of .45 ACP. It was costing me too much to go shoot that .45 - so, at less than $5 a box of 50 9mm rounds, I can afford to go every other week to the range :)
Hey shipwreck, what are the different trigger variants? They had one at my shooting range I think it was stamped QA, what are the different persuasions?
P99 A/S - It is a DA/SA gun. Of course, U can cock it to be single action on the first shot - You cock it by pulling the slide back about 1/8 of an inch. It also can be set to have a SA pull w/ the length of the DA for the 1st shot (if you wish). So, it's almost like a "triple action."
P99 QA - it is a consistent trigger - like a Glock. Every shot the same. But, it is a heavier trigger than a Glock, but also a VERY short pull. I find the trigger a bit too heavy, but the pull is so short that I guess it isn't too bad.
The A/S is what most P99 fans like. I love the SA trigger. I do plan to buy a QA eventually, though - just to complete my collection :)
Let me put my two cents in. I own a lot of different calibers but my favorites for semiautomatic pistols are 22 LR, 9mm, and 45acp. Why not the 40 S&W? I do not see much it does that a good 9mm load doesn't do as well. I find the recoil of a 40 S&W to be sharper than a 45acp and lastly, I pickup my brass after firing and there is a good chance some will be 40 S&W fired through Glocks. I had one barrel go on a handgun and I do not want to be a party to a second occasion. Regards, Richard :D
