Need some advice

Ok after shooting my wife's 9mm compact M&P the other day I have decided that I really want to get a 9mm for myself. A friend of mine has a G17 that has had 10 rounds through it, but has decided he wants a Beretta 92 (crazy but that is him). A friend of his has a Beretta 92 he wants to get rid of. So he made the proposal for me to swap my full sized .40 M&P for the G17, so he could swap the M&P for the Beretta.

My dilemma. I am not a die hard Glock fan. I have been wanting to a G19, but the G17 doesn't feel that bad. I love my M&P's just I like my compact a ton more than the full sized, that and the fact I don't think I really need 2 .40's (even contemplated getting the .357 sig barrel for the compact). New the Glocks cost more than the M&Ps, but I can't make up my mind which I would rather have. Just want some opinions.

IMHO and experience I'd never trade a S&W M&P for a Glock.

I've sold all of my Glocks (except one) in favor of M&P's and XDm's.

I'd never trade for a Glock, just me, but I would want the Beretta, myself.....

I'd take the M&P before the Glock. But the choice between the Beretta or the M&P depends on your tastes. One being a striker fired gun, the other a double/single action with a decocker. Beyond that, flip a coin. Both good guns.

It seems the M&P compact works very well for you. Basically, you can convert the pistol to hold 17+1 as the fullsize, but have the option to go compact for CC, very flexible. Looks like a winner to me, at least it seems you will have no question of buyers remorse w/ that decision and it's the one I'd make..

Ya, I know, but they all can't wind up coming out on top, somebody is gonna wind up with the M&P or the Glock..

Well it is still up int he air. He said he wanted thr Beretta because that was what the military give them when they were overseas. After he shot my M&P he said he would never go back to a Beretta unless he got called to go back overseas. He just was unsure if he liked the way a .40 felt when being shot. He just said the feel was so much beter. he said if we do trade he will probably trade it for the M&P 9mm.

I personally can't stand Berettas. Getting a Beretta in my opinion is down grading. Plus with hammers and external safties you have the chance of more things that can go wrong. That and the 2 I had give me nothing but problems.

I still have my .40c that I am using as my daily carry. I bought extra mags for the full sized and converted them (added the xgrip to fit with the frame) when I shoot the compact. The Glock was more for a fun range gun. I was going to change the frame and do some laser engraving on the slide. Change the back plate and do some other things.

To the person who said convert to a 9mm. Is it just as basic as changing the barrel and the magazines. I thought there might be some feeding problems. I will look into it thanks for the suggestion.

Barstow and others make a 9mm conversion barrel ...if using it for range/practice you likely can continue to use the .40 mags they should work fine. JJ

I checked stormlake. $180 for a conversion barrel. That was the only place that came up when I googled it. Was talking to a couple of guys and they said that I would have to get 9mm mags or I could run into some feeding problems.

I guess anything man-made (even a Beretta) can have problems. But I have a commercial M9, an 85FS, a 70S, a 1934, and a Tomcat and, honestly, have never had problems with any of them (knock on wood).

I have a 96, a 96 inox, an 84fs, and had a 92....never had a problem with any.......shoot WWB mostly......maybe they needed cleaning once in a while....

My brother and I own respectfully the following models; a 1993 92G, a 96FS, a 92FS a PX4 compact, Px4 subcompact, and a 32 Tomcat Inox. With the exception of the early run PX4 Compact with the heavy recoil spring that needed to be upgraded they all have and do run anything you feed them. I would trust w/o hesitation any of them for life and limb. Sorry to hear your unfortunate experience with Beretta firearms.
