Im shopping for my first semi auto pistols. I want a nice .22 and .40. I really like the Walther sp22 m2 with built in laser but it seems to be discontinued. Would like a 6" barrel for the .22. Looking in the $300-$400 range for each. My local dealer has a used springfield xd40 with 3 mags for $410 plus fees and tax. Is this a good deal? Any other recommendations?
for a 22 look at Ruger's website - mkiii or 22/45 or SR22 (walther sp22 clone) - I like the 22/45 5.5" bull barrell best at $310
for .40 - Under $400 NEW ? - i have no idea other than get a glock
I will say that i have recently learned that a lot of LEO agencies are making the 40 the std side arm caliber
The XD40 sounds a little bit high to me. Maybe he will come down a little
I've had a few 22s and my favorite is the Ruger MkIII. There are various models -- I happen to have the Target Model with the 5.5 inch bull barrel. Good weight, well built, reliable, and accurate. And... a real pain in the rear to clean! But it does get easier.
I was told to look at the rugers but I just dont think they look good.
I cant remember but if its an XDM, I think it would be a decent deal.
The ruger sr22 looks nice.
That is exactly why the Ruger MarkIII was my third 22LR purchase instead of my first! If I had it to do all over again, I would have not purchased the other guns and gone straight to the Ruger MarkIII.Quote:

Look at the S&W 22A,real nice shooting and accurate,pretty cheap to.As for a 40,all i have is a Sig P229 ,shoots good,just feels to big to me and not very nice to carry concealed.

For a 40 in the $400.00 range I would suggest you look at the Sig SP2022, the Ruger SR40, the Smith SD or possibly the Sigma, which is a pretty good pistol, albeit with a heavy trigger pull for around $300.00 new.

Browning Buckmark and a GLOCK 22 buddy. The Browning will be as accurate and easier to maintain than the Ruger Mk III. I have 4 and they all shoot like rifles; with my 5.5" Camper (basic) I shot the nozzle off a paint can at 20 yards. Yes, it took 3 shots, but it did what I intended to do! I've killed a lot of squirrels with those guns, and they are phenominal.
The GLOCK is simple, the interior looks like an aircraft carrier flight deck, andupgrade parts are plentiful and cheap. Spare mags are half the cost of the others, and anyone who makes a holster makes one for the GLOCK. No brainer, bub!

Buckmark or markIII both good guns. I shoot my sons buckmark and like it, it feels good, like the sights and shoots good. It's a nice gun.
I have two mark II, one older std 6" bbl and a mark II target 5.5" bull bbl. Both of these guns shoot beyond my capabilities. Several of my friends have Mark III. What can be said in all honesty is I like them all.
It's just me, but I would spend less on the .22, and more on the .40. The .40 will be enjoyable to shoot. I don't own a .22, but Browning and Ruger make great 22's. I have shot many 40's....I traded my Walther P99, and currently shoot a Beretta 96...god, I love that gun...to me, the best .40 out there........

I'd split it with $275-300 for a ruger 22/45 and $500-525 for the .40
