I am seriously considering the FNP40 myself. I like the specs, the look and the price. I haven't held one or shot one, but what I have read about it has been favorable.
I've been considering yet another semi-auto and have had my eye on the FN FNP40. I like it because it is made by a reputable company and has ambidextrous controls for my left handedness. I can't find one locally to even examine and would have to get one mail order but am weary without knowing much about the gun. If any of you shoots or has fired one, I'd like to hear any opinions on the gun.
If I can't be sure about this gun I may just go with another Baby Eagle instead as I know they are excellent.

I held one at the last gun show - felt pretty nice - the frame style safety wasn't quite as convienient to use as say - a HK USP, however...
I have the 9mm version. It has been 100% reliable for over 2500 rds. so far. I find it to be a high quality piece in every way. I have the DA/SA action, the trigger is smooth, DA is not too heavy and SA is as light as I would want it. The only issue is finding extra mags and holsters to fit, which should get better as the demand increases. I honestly think it is the best handgun out there at the $400 price point. I bought mine on faith, having only handled the Browning version, but never shooting one. I'm very glad I did.![]()

Happy hunting.
I looked at 1 again at this past weekend's gunshow. Nice looking gun...
I would like to know about the DAO version. Has anyone seen one?
The FNUSA site lists a FNP45 as "coming soon"
That just might have to be my next purchase![]()

What about a FiveseveN.....![]()
The ammunition is way too expensive for me.Originally Posted by blackice

What is the relationship between FNP and Browning? Is one made by the other?![]()
Tom
I believe 1 of them makes the gun and just puts either name on the guns. They seem to have some affliation.
Well, I just ordered a stainless finish FNP40 with the 14-round magazines.
It should be in Monday or Tuesday.![]()
Kewl. Make sure to post us up some pics....
I think it is a nice gun - if I didn't already have a buttload of polymer guns, I'd be tempted to get one in 9mm too...
Well, I picked it up today.
My first impressions are: I like it; the stainless finish is nice, and the gun is not bad looking; it's pretty tight - hardly any play in the slide. Actually, quite tight by polymer frame standards. No movement when pressing down on the barrel shroud.
It comes with 3 14-round .40 S&W magazines, which is nice. It also comes with one interchangeable backstrap. The one on the gun is arched, the extra is flat. The arched feels pretty good, but I'll try the flat just to see if I like that better. It also came with night sights.
The trigger is your average production DA/SA trigger.
I hope to see how it shoots in a week or two.
I'll put up some pics in a day or two when I get the chance.
Nice, post up a pic!![]()
I was looking at one this past weekend, and they feel like a well balanced pistol. Give us a good range report and don't forget the pictures Bob.
No, I didn't forget. I just can't get to it for another couple of days.
I'll post then first chance I get.
I finally got to take a few pics (not very good ones, though). I worked 12+ hour days this week - we were doing a Disaster Recovery test on several Servers and Applications. Now that it's the weekend, we're getting the remnants of Ernesto, so it's going to rain today and tommorow so I won't get to shoot it yet.

Nice looking gun![]()
Real good looking gun Bob. I like having a hammer on a gun. I am going to see if I can fine one at the show this weekend.
I've had my FNP40 for a few months, and it just keeps getting better and better. As a pistol instructor, I have let a lot of ladies shoot with my pistol and they like it far better than the nines they bought. Having the external hammer is a huge plus for me, because it makes that double-tap a lot easier to accomplish. I'm extremely happy with the gun. I wrestled with the decision to buy it or the PX4 Storm from Berretta. They both fit my hand nicely, but I opted for the 4-inch barrel on the FNP, and have never regretted it.
Congratulations
I think you'll like it.
I own & shoot it older brother
