choosing a handgun

i'm in the market for a handgun. just looking for a gun i can take to the range and shoot, not looking for a ccw oriented gun. the guns im looking at are:
-sigpro 2022 9mm
-fnp 9mm
-cz-75 9mm
-xdm 9mm

unfortunately, i can't test-fire all these models at the local range. is this a situation where the gun that fits my hand the best, should be my final choice? or is there some attribute that one of these guns has that makes it a better choice that the others? any suggestions i'm not considering?

out of the ones you had listed id say the sigpro 2022 as sig is an outstanding pistol maker from all ive ever heard about them, or the xdm would also be a good pick but i still say sig. but try to find a dealer with them in stock and put hands on them yourself to find out what fits you best, finger length is a big contributor to gun choice as some peoples hands are too small for some grips. but anyways i still say sig, get hands on to see which one feels right for you. oh and ruger makes a 9mm too i noticed it wasnt up there

i left the ruger out because when i handled it at a gun show it just didnt feel right. i'll see if i can get my hands on the cz and sig this weekend.

The gun that fits your hand the best is always the one to chose. If you can not reach all the controls(trigger, safeties, mag. button. decock lever, ect) with out repositioning the hand it is the wrong one no matter how great every one says it is. It may be the finest gun made but not the right one.

The XDM comes with everything you need to shoot it (holster, mag pouches, mag loader). If it fits you it's a good deal but I like the CZ 75 too.

I suggest that you get a 9 mm first and a automatic first.

I then think that you should try both striker fired guns & hammer fired guns ( they do shoot differently IMHO).

I'd also suggest that you handle & rent / steal / borrow the guns that make you're "final cut" list.

Then I'd suggest that you buy a used "quality" gun before you buy a new "cheaper" gun.

Good high quality guns hammer fired guns are Sig Sauer / Beretta / Older S&W's / Browning / CZ's and others.

Good high quality striker fired guns are Springfield Armory / S&W M&P Series / Glock's and others.

I'm sure I've left our other high quality guns like Kimber / Colt and many more

In my immediate family we own 5 Sig P2022's and all of us really like them.

They have a wonderful trigger straight from the factory IMHO

If you aren't going to carry, buy a full size 9mm semi-auto handgun. Ammo is inexpensive and you will enjoy shooting it. After visiting all the gun stores in the area and handling them, make a list of the ones that felt good in your hand, then go shoot them.

You can either rent some at a range, or find someone who has one and will let you shoot it.
