    Need opinions please

Hello to all, new to the forum. I am looking to buy a gun for carry and IDPA. I am leaning towards either a SIG 226, a SIG 229, or a Springfield XDM. SIGs feel great and they have an excellent reputation, from what I have heard and read. But they are a little spendy. XD's also have a great reputation, but I have never fired DAO. Probably take me some getting used to if I go that route. But while I am leery of the DAO and polymer frame (or whatever it is), the XD's do have a nicer price tag than SIG. I found a new SIG 250 for under 500 dollars, but have heard that they are quite iffy, especially the triggers. With apologies to all who may be offended by my next, I am not a Glock guy. Don't care for the feel of those. Any input will be very much appreciated. Many thanks. As for the 1911 guys, after I get this one bought, I will be saving up for a new Eclipse.

You say you're not a Glock guy, what "kind of guy" are you? That may help.

Technically, the XD line is really SAO, not DAO, but that's not really an issue. Other than price and reputation what do you like about Sigs and XDs?

What don't you like about Glocks?

What guns are you used to?

"Not a Glock guy" means that they feel like a plastic brick in my hand. Hate the way they feel. I judge a pistol by performance first, and then how it fits my hand. Glocks do not fit my hand. 1911's are good, SIGs are better, but the Browning Hi Power fits my hand best of all. I've had two.

If you like the Hi Power, add CZ 75s to your list as well and I'd opt for Sig over the XD/XDM. The CZs, pending on variant can be carried single action, cocked and locked like the Hi Power or DA/SA like a Sig.

Sig also has some single action only Sig 220s, I keep wishing that Sig would make a fair priced SAO 226. I'm 50/50 on traditional DA/SA autos, but the Sig guns with the Short Reset Trigger are pretty sweet. I really want to take a look at the new Sig 226 Enhanced Elite, there's a 229 version as well, but I prefer a full size gun for most occasions.

The XDM while a little more svelte than the Glock still has that plasticy feel to it that's absent on the CZ and Sig.

Ditto on the CZ 75 series. Great value. Accurate, reliable and inexpensive compared to the competition.
The main gripes with the CZs is that they aren't quite as nicely finished internally and the triggers can be less than wonderful. My trigger has improved with use. For the money you can't beat them. I have a 75DB w/ Kadet Kit and now I'm looking at a 97B.

I think you'll find the SIGs a little heavy for all day carry, which is the great selling point of the GLOCK. Yes, XDs are in fact single action pistols. You'd never know it based on that terrible trigger, but they are.

CZ is a good choice, but you might also look at M&P or the Walther P99 if GLOCK isn't to your liking.

I understand and agree on your feeling about the Glock - but many like them.

Here's another vote for the CZ

    Here's my CZ 75 Compact.

I also like my Sig Sauer P229 Platinum Elite.

I carry both guns at different times.

Both guns are very accurate and dependable.
