Funny story there. I pulled a stunt at the range once that really made me look like an idiot. I was shooting SASS at the time, and had a big old Henry levergun that was very accurate and a beautiful firearm. Anyway, as I was loading the tubular magazine, I was chatting with a buddy and when I pushed the rod down to secure the rounds, damn thing slipped out of my hand and launched about 15 feet downrange! Range officer immediately appeared and proceeded to shut down the range whilst ole Eli went and picked up his rifle parts. EMBARRASSING S$%%! Fortunately, no harm no foul, and I had indeed shown my safety prowess by launching my UFO downrange. Sideways or backways might not have been so funny. Enjoyed your story, I cranked elevation into a scope onetime, one click at a time, while trying to adjust windage. DUH!

Well I couldn't just leave ye hanging out there by your loneself. An honest man admitting his mistakes deserves respect. I reckon there are quite a few untold "goofs" out there, I mean, we really do strive for safety first, but as they say "to err is human".

While I'm sure I've made plenty of mistakes, the funniest "incident" wasn't really my fault.

Shooting at an indoor range with my nearly new Walther P99 years ago, I was plugging away at the target. About 2 rounds into a new magazine, the plastic floorplate cracked, allowing the plate parts, mag spring, and the remaining rounds to spray spectacularly across the range floor.

I must have been quite a sight, standing there with a "pants down" look on my face, handgun pointed downrange and looking around my feet trying to figure out what just happened.

The first run of P99, .40 caliber magazines had a defect in the plastic. Walther sent new parts for free, but having projectiles shoot out at your feet as opposed to your target can certainly get your attention!

Wow, a floor full of live .40s and misc. gun parts would get some attention! I like that "pants down" look description . I mean, its a freekin' gun range...kind of hard to tell everyone... "Im THOO THOWWY!" Good story, safe shooting.

I haven't been shooting long enough to have any stories to match up with all of yours, but my worst is probably when I was shooting a buddy's Springfield XD for the first time. I didn't realize it had a hair-trigger mag release, at least compared to my CZ, so on the third shot, I hit the button from the way I was gripping the pistol. The "oh crap, I broke it" look on my face was pretty interesting.

Painfully loud "CLUNK" indeed, especially with that much ammo still in it. Fortunately I wasn't the first to do that with his gun, though, so he was good about it and realized what happened pretty quick.

I was telling my wife that I was going to post about my knuckleheaded move and she said, "are you nuts? Those people are going to think your crazy!!".

And, now,

And, the worst and most expensive of ALL !

3. People who have made a wheels up landing, and those who will.

Luckily, so far, I've always made the little round rubber thingies touch down first. so far.

Ahhh...Eli once fancied himself an aviator. My Father was chief project engineer for Bendix on the C-5 Galaxy landing gears. I grew up with airplanes, but preferred motorcycles in my youth. My landings in the sweetest of aircraft, the Cessna 150 were always wheels down! I never got my license after a nasty motorcycle wreck! But I drift...never could figure out that trim lever.

WOW!! I have started a whole new catagory!! How cool is that!!

I certainly am glad you have managed to land wheels down, it would suck otherwise!!
