    sighting question

So, I just bought a NIB Ruger P-95. I have about 300 rounds through it. At first I was spraying bullets hi and low but all left. My buddy shot it and it was right on. My wife shot it dead on as well. I was playing around from a bench today and discovered that if I try to shoot w/ both eyes open..I suck. left eye closed and right open same thing. Then I tried right eye closed and I put 50 straight rounds in the 10 ring from 10 yards(no bench). Perhaps I need glasses? If I can shoot 2 inch dia. groups at 10 yards w/ one eye closed...free hand, do I need to even worry about it...just shoot that way??? WWYD?

I'll bet you are lefy eye dominant and right handed, I am as well and shoot a little better using my left eye only. Google "EYE DOMINANCE TEST" and figure out if you are or not. If you are there are some things we can do to improve your two eye open shooting ability.

Personally I have no problems shooting with one eye open, but opinions vary on the notion of what's better.

I know that I am left eye dominant. I shoot archery right handed (which is supposedly wrong) but I am competition level good. My pistol shooter friends say that one MUST become both eye accurate in order to be self defense competent. I guess a visit to the eye doc is the next step.

Your friends don't grasp the concept of tunnel vision. Besides you can always OPEN the closed eye in between targets to search for other threats etc.

Here are some other threads on the matter.

Do you have one or two eyes open when you shoot?

    Dominant eye ?

    Cross domiance issue

A trip to the eye doctor may not be in order but might not be a bad idea. I have better than 20/20 and am still left eye dominant. There are things you can do to retrain your eyes, but to me it's not worth the hassle.

I would not worry about it, I shoot with one eye closed all the time.

I am right eye dominant and right handed like most folks.

Something I learned after much practice is to keep both
    eyes open.

I can recognize the alignment of the sights with my right
eye while having the left eye watch the target.

    It is mental recognition.

Most people can learn this with practice. It may help to
have some light gathering sites mounted until the mind
can recognize when the sights are lined up while looking
    down range.

I do not know if everyone can do this or not.

I am old and have bad eye sight, but can out shoot most
folks from a standing position, even the younger folks. I
think it is because I can line the sights easily.

    Happy Shootin,

    Tabdog
