First of all let me say this is a very sad thing to happen. If indeed a father did this to his son it is a shame.
I do not see anywhere saying it was a .40 bullet? Could it have been a .22?

There was a report this morning on our local news station that described a shooting of a son by his father and I thought the details would be of interest:
1. The coroner determined that the head shot was no further than 24" away
2. It was fatal.
3. There was no exit wound, the round entered the front of the skull but the back wall stopped it from exiting
I know a lot of you who quote statistical information regarding the ability to stop a bad guy but this is real life.

I have a BIG reason to doubt the accuracy of that report. I doubt that a .40 round from 24" away would hardly be slowing down enough to NOT penetrate the human head.
Sully,
Please don't shoot the messenger, I do agree with you. In fact I would expect a 9mm JHP round to exit from 2 feet away and, maybe even a .380 acp.
The validity of the information is most definitely in question, after all it's the media, what do they care about being accurate? All they wanted to do was sensationalize a tragic event that can't be undone. They are mercanary in their behavior and liars by the fact they are media.
Perhaps tomorrow's newspaper will an article about it, I can't wait to read what they report. Isn't it fun???

It's a shame things like this have to happen!
VietVet68, where were you? I was in Pleiku from 68-69.
