I have a T/C and a Competitor in 44 mag also and a SSK Industries T/C Contender in 375JDJ to go along with the T/C G2 rifle in 375JDJ I just bought..also have a Savage Striker in 308, but that is a 3 shot bolt action pistol...
I Have been thinking of buying a Contender for almost 40 years. Iknow if I got one I would keep myself broke buying barrels in different interesting calibers. there a lot of them that I would love to play with. One that I almost bought was a 7mm bullet in a 223 case called the 7mm TCU. the 357
Herrett is another that I would love to play with. Years ago a buddy and I gave his XP100 Remington in 221 Fireball a workout. It was serious medicine at 200 yards.
My experience with the Single Shot is limited. J.D. Jones, custom barrel maker for the Contender, lives not too far from my daughter. A friend of my son-in-law's blued some barrels for J.D., and when he and some more of his friends learned I was a handgunner, they gathered up about three frames and a box full of barrels. They started me of with a .30-30 barrel and we went up to the .45-70. The .45-70 was loaded with 500gr. cast bullets that had been wrapped with Teflon tape in place of bullet lube, then sized. Don't remember what the powder charge was, but that was a handful of pistol. A 500gr bullet at any reasonable velocity KICKS.
Contenter? No...not since I fired my friends over loaded .45 colt. I do, however, have a Wichita bolt-action silhouette gun, in .308 winchester. Never had a ringer with it!
Have to load it down for daily use. If you fire a factory round, even in day time, the fireball will blind you for a few seconds. And the concussion makes people around you wish you were somewhere else! :smt067
I bet I haven't fired that thing in over 10 years. Its taking up room in the back of my safe and probably getting rusty. Guess I should take it out and look at it from time to time.
My Contender was the first gun I ever bought (15 years old). I carried it when I was deer hunting and shot a ton of grouse over the years with the 410. Best $175 I ever spent, cleaned out my bank account at the time.
