Gun in Movies

The other night I was watching the movie "Live Free or Die Hard" for Bruce Willis (I know that's an old movie) but being busy at work and with the kids schedule, I am trying to catch up with DVD rentals at the special rack in the local video store.. Anyways, After few months reading and learning more about handguns, in the first shooting scenes I jumped from my chair and told my wife "It's a SIG...He (i.e. Bruce) has a SIG)..Couldn't tell which one exactly but the cutlines and the tactical trail was a SIG print. Obviously my wife was startled from me jumping up and down shouting like a kid more than the shooting scene.

I was so self-satisfied to make a positive identification..So through out the movie I was watching for the handguns and try to identify as much as I can (without the luxury of using the remote control to stop scenes or rewind and play at slow speed..That will mean my wife will leave the room and will not watch the movie, because already she was complaining about the too much shooting). Any ways, I was able to identify a Glock may be 17 or one of those with long barrels with an FBI agent. And obviously the desert eagle in stainless steel at the last scenes with the bad guy mastermind.

Boy I felt like a kid..Now I can't wait to see a movie with a Beretta 92FS or a CZ or some other guns that I have..It just changes my complete movie experience now that i know more about guns..Something to keep me smile in the darkness of a theater or the family room (as I am watching, and without anyone noticing) once I do a positive identification of a gun in a scene. I am sure you all know what I mean.

It's easy to see a movie with a 92FS. They make very frequent appearances in movies. Check out any Lethal Weapon movie, or even the early Die Hard movies. John Woo seems to be a Beretta fan, as well, as they tend to show up in his movies frequently. All I have to say is welcome to the club. I and some of my gun loving friends have done this for year. It's fun watching a movie and hearing something like "Oooh! Nice Sig!"

haha the first time i did this was with Bad Boys 2 with Will Smith's 2-tone Glock 17's and the HK UMP45. the first time i saw a movie with my baby eagle in it was War with Jet Li and Jason Stathan, it seemed like 15 chinese guys were carrying full-size black versions of it at one point

The real fun part comes when trying to identify guns that have been "hollywooded up". What I mean by that is in a lot of movies they will make purely cosmetic charges to a gun to make it look more exotic and badass. Check out either Tomb Raider and see if you can identify what Angelina is shooting. Clue: It is a nice gun with just some extra crap on it.

I'm 90% sure that Bruce is using a Beretta PX4 in the live free or die hard. I do this any movie I watch with guns in it. Its a real bad habit to break, I don't even know I'm doing it half the time.
