Most hand guns are more accurate than I am but , some do buy them for the accuracy , other.s like my self , buy them because some barrels are not compatible with lead reloads , like Glocks.
And there are many to choose from , I personally have a Bar Sto. They cost a little more but it's what I chose for my .45 Glock.
The can be better than Gun Brand Factory barrels and they can be worse. No different than any other manufactured product you might buy.
Bar Sto, Storm Lake, Wolf, and EFK are possible sources.
+1 on Bar Sto
I have them for my Glock 23 and Sig P229 40 S&W to shoot the cheaper 9mm at the range. And I didn't even think about shooting the lead loads  'ding' thanks lostsoul
As far as shooting better than the factory barrel - not really bout the same for me.
I've used Bar Stow and one Fusion barrel in pistols. Green Mountain and Tactical Solutions barrels and upper receivers when I'm playing with funky 10-22 builds.
I'd look at them pretty close and know what you are wanting the barrel for. It's pretty hard to shoot out a barrel on a semi auto weapon so most are getting them to get tighter groups or to be able to widen their choices for ammo.
Make sue the one you get will work with what you're wanting to do.Most all the big makers will get it done. I've seen lemmons for a few of them before so like TOF said it's like anything else machined. Accidents happen.
