Ive been looking at the S&W Sigma 9mm. Love the look and the feel. Haven't had an opportunity to shoot one but have held one. However I see alot of flack on here about them.
What do you guys think?
If you dont like them what would you suggest for around the same price?
The Sigma is well worth what is paid for it. I've owned a 40 and shot a few 9mm's and all worked as well or better than expected. The triggers are pretty rough but it's workable with a little time and maybe a striker spring replacement.
So far everyone I've seen was spot on POA at 25 yards. I know a few pistols that cost a good but more that have a problem saying that. for 300.00 or less you can't ask for more than that.
Bare in mind that it is not a target weapon and it never will be. It was built as a combat weapon and is a little loose like pistols of this type tend to be. Buy you do your part it will do it's.
I also agree with the "Get One Now" group. I have a 9mm and couldn't be happier. As far as the infamous "Sigma trigger" issue, it does have a long pull and can be a bit rough or gritty. Fortunately, you can send it to S&W's warranty center (LSG Manufacturing) and have the gritty trigger issue taken care of FOR FREE including shipping BOTH WAYS.
You might see a lot of "shadetree" fixes that involve putting in weaker springs to make the pull lighter, but please ignore these so-called fixes! The thing to be aware of is that the only safety on this gun is found between your ears. As someone said in another forum, you alone decide when to place your booger hook on the bang switch!

While I couldn't say that one should get one now, I do think that they provide a very good level of performance for the dollar spent. I would have no problems in keeping one for home defense, as they are accurate and reliable enough to do so. Just keep in mind that there are reasons why they don't cost as much as a Glock or XD, the main one being a less than stellar trigger.
As much as I hate to admit it, it is a good value. I'm not fond of the pistol when compared with the Springfield XD but it is a decent, lightweight and fairly reliable weapon.
I did not vote because my option was not listed. I would say it is worth the money if you are strapped for cash and don't mind sending it off to get the trigger worked. Otherwise I would say save up a little more and spend the money on a gun with no reservations. There are fantastic options for about $100 more. I bought my Dad a Beretta 92 new for $440 and my Glock 26 new for $470.Quote:

The Sigma is a decent gun for the price. I have limited shooting time with one and myself would not buy one. The Ruger P95 is roughly the same price I would rather have that. They are very reliable eat any ammo you feed it and have decent triggers from the factory. Granted they are DA/SA rather than striker fired. But as stated above with a little more cash you get yourself into a much nicer realm of guns.
Braddubya, I'll personally send you $20 to put towards a S&W M&P. The M&P is one hundred times better than that Sigma VE trash. Or I'll send a Gripmaster hand exerciser to get you ready for your new Sigma purchase. Please save your money.

The last 40VE I had with a couple springs changed had a 5# pull. Was as accurate as you could expect it to be at distances well beyond and SD situation will be. I would think trash is a pretty strong word to use. Sure the M&P has a better trigger. But compared to my 1911's using pull has a reason to dump a gun then it wouldn't be worth the plastic put in it. The spring job cost me 15 bucks and about an hour to get it how I wanted it. After several thousand rounds it was traded off to get rid of all my striker fired weapons and the guy that has it has put a few more thousand rounds through it.Quote:

I you are thinking about the P95 look in the Ruger section. Also check out www.rugerforum.com
When I think of good inexpensive semi auto pistol, the P95 is the first on that comes to mind then the Sigma.
