Trying to decide if I want the XDM 9mm or the M&P 9mm. I like the feel of both of them but have not got to hold them at the same gun shop yet. The M&P seems lighter and according to specs I have found it is. What are the pros and cons of each gun?
I like the M&P being an American made gun. Here the price difference is about $50 less for the M&P.

You are getting a match grade barrel with the XDM so I would imagine it's a tad more accurate!
I have an XDm 9 and a M&P 9L. I like both, but the M&P feels better to "me". It appears that I am more accurate with the M&P, but it could be the fact that I bought the long slide version.
M&P all the way. It's made in America, and doesn't have that silly grip safety or loaded chamber/striker status indicator. Better balance in my hands as well, but might not be for yours. The interchangeable backstrap is an added plus.
Yes, the XD is a fine firearm and it might well be the best handgun to ever come out of Croatia, but I've used them and have never been impressed one bit.
We will pause here for a moment to let all the ones who take the comment above personally to come out....
As for a match barrel -- the match barrel might be more accurate if you clamp it in a vise, but you have to shoot on a very, very high level in order for a match barrel to make a difference on something that is not a match gun in the first place. Don't fall prey to marketing......
I'd say m&p all the way as well. I've shot both, but the m&p just feels better.
My vote is for the M&P as well. Although I have never owned a XD, I held both when I was looking and the M&P just "felt" better in my hand. The XD felt a little blockier in my hand. I now have both a M&P9 and a M&P9c.
I'd go with the XDM. 19+1 is astronomical in a handgun of such size. XDM takedown is easier too in my opinion.
Can't go wrong wit the XDM
Just got an XDm 9mm and LOVE it! Super easy field strip, match barrel, 19+, and it fits me (nice to have the 3 backstraps too!)
Take a look at the Taurus 24/7 OSS. Don't criticize it until you hold it and shoot it. Do yourself a favor, take a look.
